I downloaded Zelda: A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Wild Arms. I'm also planning to download Lunar: Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue. This is so wrong, yet, I don't wanna be right.

actually rom law is you can have any rom you "don't own" for 24 hours on your computer after that you have to remove it, but if yo uown the actual game you are entitled to the rom. And if you look at the rom law closly there is such a huge loop hole in it.

Afaik there's no such clause on the books, its more like an urban legend that just keeps spawning on all of the rom sites.  Yes, even if you own the cartridge.

Hell, its illegal to make personal copies of DRM stuff you bought.

In some countries, it is legal for an individual to personally make backup copies of a game they own. Individuals may make backup copies for various reasons, perhaps as insurance against losing the game or as redundancy in the event that the original game's medium becomes unreadable. However, in the U.S. it has been illegal since 1983 for a user to create their own backups of video game ROMs onto other cartridges. This was decided in the court case of Atari v. JS&A. JS&A manufactured a "game backup" device that allowed users to dump their Atari ROMs onto a blank cartridge. JS&A argued that the archival rule allowed for this. The court disagreed, noting that ROM media was not subject to the same volatility as magnetic media (for which the law was created). Thus, not being so relatively vulnerable, ROMs were not applicable under section 17 USC 117(a)(2).

Some games companies, such as Nintendo, print warnings inside their game manuals that they do not allow users to make backup or archival copies. Whether or not these warnings in this specific form can be considered valid contracts is legally questionable. I'm not sure about that philsov in the booklet of every Disc medium it says under whatever law I shall check later and update but it says you are allowed to make one and only one copy of the game so that you have a backup just in case you lose the game or whatever as far as cartridge games i dunno.  Honestly though who cares it's stupid that they would think we wouldn't do it anyway.

UPDATE: After looking at every booklet for every disc game i have the verdict is you are allowed to have a copy only for backup *snicker* and not to be edited *snicker*

But all of the cartridges say your not allowed to back up them rom.

funny looking through my playstation stuff i cant find anything on copyright, but on my Zelda TP manual it says no backup or archival copy whatsoever
