Ole

My son has not been able to use a computer for a couple of years.  (sad story) anyway--he is now asking what has been happening with the fft hacking since fall 2007.  For instance, is there a way to have more than 5 team mates and stuff like that.
I will pass your responses on to him.  Much appreciated.

Dokurider

Well, quite a bit has happened since Fall 2007. Like hundreds atop of hundreds. I'm not even sure what version we were on Fall 2007. A complete list of changes doesn't exist, but the next best thing is what the current version (13030) offers:

Show this to your son. As for having more than 5 units to a team, that is still not possible currently. Hopefully, your son gets his computer back.

VampragonLord

well you could modify the entd to put extra units into the team, and the attack out allows you to modify how many you can have on your team in any given battle, as long as you obeyed the sprite limit, you MIGHT be able to get it to work, though i havent actually looked into that in a while. 2007... geez o.o umm.... we can edit A LOT more now then we could.

Dokurider

Yeah, that can work, but that's not a feature of 1.3, which I assume what he is talking about.

VampragonLord

"he is now asking what has been happening with the fft hacking since fall 2007." err... sounds more like a vague "what can we do now that we couldnt in 2007"

Kaijyuu

Yeah not sure where you got the idea he was asking about 1.3.

Anyway, we're able to change pretty much all the character, ability, and item statistics. The basic framework of the game though is largely untouched; changing the story is absurdly difficult, graphics (aside from character sprites) are rarely modified, music too... It's very much Final Fantasy Tactics. Rebalancing and such is easy, but I doubt any full conversion mods will come out anytime soon.

I haven't been around long enough nor paid enough attention to give a full list of new stuff, but yeah, that's the jist of what we can do now.

? I don't have any problem with it, it just takes a lot of time.

Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)

<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

Kaijyuu

Yeah that's what I meant. :P

since 2007?  wow.

Let's see, we can now edit:

- Events and story script.
- In game text
- Starting location of your party in all maps
- Number of party members in the map (max 5, but you can cap things at 2 if preferred)
- Some members have learned to code more indepth, resulting in specific hacks (defending now also reduces damage taken, e.g.)
- All manner of enemy traits
- How to make ramza a holy swordsman

are the big ones :D
Just another rebel plotting rebellion.
