Questions from a beginner.

I have just begun modding FFT, and I have some questions.

1. Can I create a brand new job for any class to turn into?
2. How do I edit character's portraits? I downloaded the ATTACK.OUT editor, but when I open it, it says 'File not found.' The program still opens, but only a few of the drop boxes have any options when I click them.
3. How do I edit the names of skills/jobs/characters?
4. How do I open UNIT.BIN and WLDFACE.BIN files on FFTTEVGRP?

Thanks in advance.

2. Use the search bar.

4. Use the search bar.

Honestly, it's mainly the same, but it does differ if you're trying to mod PSP or PSX. So I'll do the best I can to answer your questions.

1. Yes you can. Unfortunately, if you want to give the classes new sprites as well, you're going to have to sacrifice another one (or a game character). If you just want to add a class to your late game file, this isn't much of a problem because you can just write over the sprite files of an NPC that doesn't appear. Such as Simon.

2. The character portraits are found in WLDFACE.BIN. You need to down FFTTEVEGRP, open WLDFACE.BIN and export the portrait. From there, you can use a program like Photoshop or Graphics Gale to edit them.

3. There is a program for that. I forget the name of it. Just search the forum and you'll find it.

4. You have to download UMDgen and use it to extract the fftpack file. There is also a guide on that if you search.

Really all of this is quite easy to find if you search the forum.

3. I tried looking for this mysterious file, but I can't find it.
4. Where is the fftpack file? I also tried searching for the guide, but couldn't find it.

Also, how do I play a .gme file? I downloaded one off Gamefaqs, and opened it in FFTastic, but I don't know how to play it on ePSXe.

crunchyfrog99

Wait, just found out how to play a .gme file.

3. FFTacText, found in FFTPatcher suite in the downloads --> Tools section.

4. If you are using the PSX ver. of the game, not the PSP, just extract those 2 files you need from your .bin/.iso file using CDmage, also found in the tools section on the main page.

3. I used FFTacText, but it won't let me change Job names.

4. Thanks! Got it working :)

Jumza

K, to get FFTactext to edit job names, Import your ISO, click Text, go to the very bottom option called quick edit, select the bar that sais job descriptions and click Job Names.

Urgh, another error.

When I use FFTEVGRP to edit the portraits/formation sprites, it says I have to make the new picture 16-bit colours. So I went into paint, edited the portrait to what I wanted, and saved it as a 16-bit colour .bpm file. But then the quality is seriously degraded and the colours are all messed up. Here are some screenshots:

Also, thank you for all your help so far. I managed to change the Job Names as well.

Use Celdia's formation sprite tutorial

In all the time ive spent using MS paint, it never worked well (windows 7 pain anyway). Try using Graphics Gale or Gimp instead.

The problem you're having here is that the picture no longer has the right palette, which can be changed easily by using an image editing program that I mentioned before. You can change the messed up colors back to the way you want them to be!
EDIT: Derp, posted 20 seconds after Elric XD. Yeah when in doubt try looking for tutorials, in the tutuorial section, or in and around the help forum (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=9204.0) is the tutorials

HOLY FINALLY IT WORKS

BEHOLD: HOURS OF WORK FOR THE CHANGING OF ONE CHARACTER:

Only reason why he's light blue is because he has regen.

I'm surprised you guys have the patience to do this, but it was pretty fun. I guess I'll move on to making a new Job now, like I mentioned in the first post.

crunchyfrog99

How would I go about changing an item sprite? I want to change the look of Cloud's Materia Blade, but I don't know what file it is or how to edit it.

How would I change the characters name's in the story without changing their name manually in every scene? I looked in the tutorials section but couldn't find anything.

Pride

You would have to change it in every scene using the event compiler. There's no way to quickly do this.
