Good way to earn special items without making the game too easy?

I'm up for anything here. I want to be able to get the Chaos Blade, Maximillian, Grand Helm, etc. much before the end of the game, which I can easily do with Lion Editor, but that just makes the game way to easy. Is there a way anyone could think of that would enable me to get these items much sooner but without making every fight way too easy?

Edit your game so the enemy has multiple copies of all those rare items by Chapter 3/4 and give them innate maintenance?  That's essentially how FFT War of the Gods (a special series of Gameshark codes that makes all enemies double your level and use all the rare gear) works.
