What if Ramza never abandoned his post at Igros?

Would Teta be alive?

This is a working-out-the-kinks storyline for a mod I might make.

First, you need to change Ramza's character before Igros.  Make him less introspective, more conventional in his attitude and aspirations.  Give him a more conventional appearance - an inch or two shorter, but stockier and much stronger.  I have this image of Ramza being a willowy guy who was probably mistaken for a girl until he turned 14, one year before chapter 1.  That needs to change.  Maybe change his hair color too.

CUT OFF THAT FUCKING PONYTAIL.

Okay, new, more masculine and conventional sprite for Ramza.  Because Ramza is changed, so is his relationship with Alma.  They aren't as close.  Since Ramza is more conventional, his beliefs about the appropriate relationships between the aristocracy and the common peoples is more in line with his brother Zalbag... but Ramza himself is of mixed blood!?  Is there a part of this new Ramza that is uneasy about his bastardized heritage?  Not any more than normal Ramza.  The new Ramza is less imaginative, and so is less likely to be bothered by these things.

****
Gariland.

You control Delita only for this battle.  Delita is the main character for now.

At Gariland, Ramza and Company dispatch the thieves, no problem.  Ramza performs well, and doesn't doubt for a moment that this was the right thing to do, nor does he lament his enemies bloody deaths.  Delita is less familiar with him, and more confident in Ramza's skill with a sword - so none of that "Don't rush them!" crap from Delita.

****

At Mandalia, what does Ramza do?  I don't think the option should be to focus on the Corpse Brigade or focus on rescuing Algus.  It should focus on what he tells Delita to do.  Does he tell Delita to attack the Corpse Brigade, while he rescues Algus (which shows Ramza shares some of his sister Alma's protective nature) or does he tell Delita to protect Algus, while he deals with the Corpse Brigade (which shows a both his confidence in himself and his abilitiies, and also his arrogance, as he automatically takes the lead himself and delegates rescue to his "lessers", ie, the commoner Delita).  This option should determine if Alma or Teta lives, or at least who gets kidnapped by the Corpse Brigade.

After Mandalia, the meeting with Algus goes much as it did before, except that Ramza does most of the talking and Algus immediately senses that Delita is a commoner from Ramza ignoring Delita.  Would Ramza, arrogant, immediately offer his word as a ruling aristocrat to aid Algus, and then be reminded of his duty to his brothers by Delita, or would he remember his brothers and his limitations withtout Delita's imput?

I don't think he would remember his limitations without Delita's imput.  He is eager to prove that he is his brother's equal, and he knows in his bones that he could be as good as them or better, if he pushes himself.

After Delita reminds him of his duty, Ramza acquiesces and tells Algus that they must first report to Igros, to his brothers, before they do anything else.  Algus is irked by this, and by Delita, but he hides his irritation because he understands that this is the only chance he is likely to get.

****

At Igros, with Dycedarg.
Ramza is pleased by his brother's praise, but is eager for new challenges.  When Dycedarg tells him that he'll remain at Igros for the mission he was assigned at Gariland Akademy (guard duty), Ramza is disappointed, but does not challenge his brother's orders.  Algus asks for a hundred soldiers and is shot down by Dycedarg.  Delita looks down - he feels sorry for Algus, he empathizes with Algus, because he knows what it's like to be powerless and overlooked for no fault of your own.

At Igros, with Zalbag.
Before the meeting with Zalbag, Algus kicks a stone in the canal and complains about his status.  Ramza ignores him, but Delita tries to comfort him.  Algus ignores Delita.
Zalbag arrives, with Alma and Teta (Tietra... which sounds better?).  Alma hugs Ramza, but his enthusiasm is saved for Zalbag.  Teta greets Ramza as a commoner greets a nobleman (does this game have a courtesy animation?), and Ramza responds with warmth for once, because he is so rarely treated with respect.  Possible love interest.  I guess he takes after his dad in his taste for women.
Zalbag praises Ramza and tells them all about his spy in Dorter.  Ramza is gratified by his brother's praise and irked at being stuck guarding a castle, but he refuses to disobey his lord brother.  Zalbag comments on this.  Ramza remains silent, or looks down, or frowns.  Zalbag laughs, then leaves saying that thieves don't catch themselves.  Teta courtesies again, then follows Zalbag.

Algus says, "What am I going to do?"
Delita offers to accompany him to Dorter, if Ramza allows it...
Ramza shrugs, and says that Dycedarg didn't say anything about Delita or Algus staying at Igros.
Algus does not believe that Delita, a commoner, can do anything to help him.
Ramza blows him off.
Algus shrugs, and he and Delita leave.
Ramza turns to leave, and Alma stops him to tell him that Teta lied, the noble-born students pick on her.
Ramza says that maybe he'll help her with her studies when he's not watching for brigands and cut-throats.

Ramza leaves, and Algus joins.

****

At Sweegy Woods, Algus ignores Delita.

****

At Dorter Slums, Delita protects Algus.  Algus wins the battle, doesn't give an once of credit to Delita, and takes no prisoners.  With no prisoners to interrogate, he does not know what to do next.

(Okay, I painted myself into a corner.  How does Algus get to Sand Rat Sietch with no intel?  Does Delita pull a magic 8 ball out of his ass and ask it what to do next?)

****

Confrontation with Wiegraf.

Algus refuses to let Wiegraf pass.  Wiegraf ko's Algus, Delita lets him go, and Wiegraf ninja-vanishes.

****

Return to Igros.  Asschewing by Dycedarg.  Algus accepts responsibility for the raid on Dorter and the Sand Rat Sietch, because he feels guilty (though he is still enough of an asshole to be irritated by his guilt).  Larg praises Algus, who does not acknowledge that he owes Delita his life.

At this point, we have another branch.  Does Dycedarg punish Algus and Delita with shit work at the castle, and send Ramza to attack the Thieves Fort in reward for staying at his post?  I assume yes.

****

Igros.  Try to leave Igros, and a story event occurs.

Teta brings Delita coffee
Night.  Teta brings Delita coffee while Delita is on post.  Delita asks her if she thinks they would be better off on their own, if they left service to House Beoulve.  A reference to the ending of Vanilla, but without the implied incest.  Teta says no, even at it's worst, life is better here than anywhere else.  This is our home.  We must make the best of it, while we can.

Delita smiles, "What would I do without you?"

After the event, try to leave Igros again, and another event begins.  Algus and Alma talk, possible set-up for romantic interest.
Sunrise.  Algus is posted.  He yawns, and a noise startles him.

Algus draws his sword and cries, "Who goes there!"

The camera pans around, and it's Alma, coming through a door behind Algus, bearing food and maybe a book.

"Good morning."

Algus sheathes his sword and bows, "Good morning to you, my lady."

Alma giggles.

Algus fidgets.

Alma sits on a stone wall, dangles her legs over the edge, and says, "Don't mind me.  Would you like share my breakfast?"

Algus looks out across the courtyard, looks at alma, and then walks over and sits down next to her.

Algus picks up something and munches on it.

Alma says, "Everyone knows what you did to Delita."

Algus coughs.

Alma says, "I'm sorry."

Algus croaks, "I'm fine, it's-" *cough*

Alma pats Algus on the back.  Algus shakes his head.

Algus says, "What was I supposed to say?  That I'm no better than a commoner?  That a boy, who hasn't one whit of history or legacy to hold him up must follow behind me and clean up the slop I leave behind?"

Alma says, "(something something something cheer up you bastard something something)"

Algus says, "(something something really, you think so, romantic interest, something something)"

Alma smiles, "(something yes I do, and you are kinda cute something)"

The running noise you get when enemies appear on the screen.

Alma stands up and says, "Ramza, is that you?"

Camera pans around to Corpse Brigade raiders.

Algus leaps up and draws his sword.

Battle begins.

Algus and Alma vs Corpse Brigade raiders.

You control both Algus and Alma.

What kind of objectives are possible?

EDIT August 25, 2010

Battle begins w/ Algus and Alma vs Corpse Brigade Raiders

Objective is to defeat all enemies.  A switch is hidden behind a wall.  Get to it, and you ring a bell, which calls for reinforcements.

Is it possible to have add units to the battlefield after you satisfy the conditions for an event?  If it is, then Delita, Zalbag, and Dycedarg show up with some knights, and archers, and you wipe the floor with the Corpse Brigade.

Once the last man is defeated, the enemy retreats.

****

Event at Mandalia.

Corpse Brigade retreating from Igros.  They hear someone coming (it's night) and hide.

Ramza, returning victorious from the Thieves Fort with Miluda in chains.  Why didn't Ramza execute her?  Does Ramza know she is Wiegraf's sister?  If so, then how?

Corpse Brigade ambush Ramza and kidnap him.

****

Now, it's going to be a few days while the Corpse Brigade bundles Ramza back to the Windmill Shed and he's interrogated by Wiegraf.

Questions:
1.  What should Algus and Delita do in the meantime?
2.  What will everyone do when Ramza doesn't show up for a few days?
3.  What will the Corpse Brigade do to Ramza, their sworn enemy, who probably murdered all of Miluda's allies?

Skip Sandwich

first off, this is sounding pretty cool so far, as for "What happens now?"

Ramza is upset regardless of which girl is taken, but probably more visibly upset if Teta is gone (though trying to hide it). The group that ends up going on the rescue mission would consist of the other girl and either Delita or Algus (Delita if Teta was taken, Algus if Alma, Delita motivated to go by concern for his sister, Algus by possibility of advancement).
"Dave?  Are you there?"
"Yeah.  I can't get you through the cell now."
"You have to talk through the bratwurst from now on. I'm sorry. I didn't know it would do that."

So nobody knows how Algus and Delita know to search the Sand Rat's Sietch?  Are we going with the Magic 8 Ball Anal Beads?

Shade

Give the guy paper saying like "I need to meet you and your men at rat's cellar"(correct name don't remember)

Could that do it?
Upupupu...

Zetsubou

Pickle Girl Fanboy

Not plausible:
1. Commoners probably can't read and write.
2. Why leave a note to tell something as simple as where you are going?
2a. Wouldn't Wiegraf find the note and tuck it in that scarf of his?
3.  In vanilla, it was implied that Gustav tried to recruit the Corpse Brigade knight at Dorter to his cause, and, when the knight refused, Gustav left and told him where he was going if the knight wanted to join him.

I have an idea now, which furthers the story a bit.  We show Algus and Delita reconnoitering the slums at Dorter.  Algus makes some noise, Delita shushes him, and the camera pans around to show Wiegraf and the Corpse Brigade Knight having their confrontation.  At some point in the confrontation, after Sand Rat Sietch is mentioned, Algus makes a noise and it's RRRRRRROOOOOOOOOSSSSSSEEEEEEBBBBBBBUUUUUUDDDDDD!!!!! time.

But thanks anyways.  All imput is good, even it's it not plausible, because it helps me see the problem from a different perspective.

Shade

How about if one of the guys heard what Gustav and that knight were talking left there, but came telling that he is joining with Gustav after Algus failed to get information, and when he is coming he would be shouting something like "I was in rat cellar I heard about the plan and I want join his cause".

This may be alot better then the one before.

It's your choiche thought what you are going to do with it.

Quote from: "Shade"How about if one of the guys heard what Gustav and that knight were talking left there, but came telling that he is joining with Gustav after Algus failed to get information, and when he is coming he would be shouting something like "I was in rat cellar I heard about the plan and I want join his cause.

Every event has two parts: a set-up and a pay-off.  Generally, the more important the pay-off, the earlier it needs to be set up.  You can't have Algus kill off everyone and then have this guy pop up out of nowhere looking for the Knight just when Algus and Delita need a break.  It's too convenient, too lucky, and so it's unbelievable.

If I want to add this scene, then I need to add a scene before that which sets it up, and there's no plausible reason for a scene with two Corpse Brigade fighters to appear before Dorter, unless I add a new character to explain it.  A character like Zalbag's spy, maybe.

I thought earlier that this guy walking through the Slums in Dorter shouting about the Sand Rat Sietch and Gustav was improbable, hilariously so, but after sleeping on it I think it's believable if you make this guy a stupid, lazy asshole, which would explain why he wants to quit, why he thinks everyone would join him, and why he would return to the unit he abandoned to persuade others to do it too.

In short, your scene would work if I was making a Corpse Brigade patch, or a patch where a major character is a low-level Corpse Brigade soldier or a Beoulve spy posing as a commoner, but it's too much work to add in the background and set-up to make it believable without these things.

And again, thank you for your input.

EDIT

Reread what you wrote.

I think what you mean is that we have a scene before Dorter where Gustave quits and the Knight and his comrades refuse to join Gustav.  Sometime before the events at Dorter, we have another event where one of the Knight's comrades leaves to think on Gustav's offer.  Then the events at Dorter, and just as they end, the thoughtful comrade returns and is captured by Delita before Algus can kill him.  It doesn't matter if he was going to join Gustav or not, he knows what's going on and he'll talk.  But this still requires two additional scenes to set it up, and these need a reason to be there.  Same problem as before.

SilvasRuin

I stopped reading when I got to the part where you said the new Ramza would be less imaginative.  Ramza is the biggest reason I liked the story, and turning him to cardboard sucks, IMO.

Hmm, I'm not sure going about changing Ramza's Character is the best way to portray this. Recall they Only left Igros because Zalbag gave them a minor hint to do so. Say that Zalbag didn't give him this hint. Why would he leave? Just as I tried to do in Mercenaries, I tried to keep Ramza with the same core character (boy does it ever backfire in that set of events...) you can go a different path without gutting the character completely. Also the ponytail is likely in honor of his father, who also has a ponytail.

I personally see no reason to switch his looks about in that manner.

Algus is not a man of Gallione, Dycedarg would have little reason to reprimand the boy who, after all is only fighting so hard to win back his lord. Something that would be seen in very high regard and Larg would be correct in his praise. Delita though is a man of Gallione and servant to Ramza as well. He would be punished for disobeying Dycedarg's orders.

Now Algus/Alma... that's a bit of a stretch. Unless you are Radically altering Alma's personality, I couldn't see that she would enjoy the company of a stuck up noble (too akin to Dycedarg in that respect, really). Especially since you've already mentioned her care and worry of Tietra (a better name, for the record) She would also care for Delita as a brother as well. Hearing Algus talk down to Delita in that respect, would really end conversation at that point, I would assume.

Indeed it is, you just have to Make Sure no one is standing in that specific place. It's tricky to set up.

QuoteEvent at Mandalia.

Ramza, returning victorious from the Thieves Fort with Miluda in chains.  Why didn't Ramza execute her?  Does Ramza know she is Wiegraf's sister?  If so, then how?

Corpse Brigade ambush Ramza and kidnap him.

****

Interesting... a turn I wasn't expecting. Ramza may be more brash in your version, but he is still chivalrous I would imagine. He wouldn't execute a woman if he could help it.  Let someone else do it, thus take her back to Igros and hand her over to the authorities, which include his brothers.

QuoteNow, it's going to be a few days while the Corpse Brigade bundles Ramza back to the Windmill Shed and he's interrogated by Wiegraf.

Questions:
1.  What should Algus and Delita do in the meantime?
2.  What will everyone do when Ramza doesn't show up for a few days?
3.  What will the Corpse Brigade do to Ramza, their sworn enemy, who probably murdered all of Miluda's allies?

I think after a day or so Dycedarg would send Zalbag as reinforcements to the fort to find it abandoned, but signs of a battle had taken place. Regardless it would lead Zalbag to believe that the battle went south for Ramza and he was captured or killed. This in turn would lead the whole of the Hokuten marching the countryside trying to find all of the hideouts of the Corpse Brigade.  Eventually they would find someone who would talk and tell them where Ramza is being kept.

The interim is an odd thing. Now it comes to it. Why has Algus not gone back to Limberry with Elmdor? He was plainly buried there in the end, so why wouldn't his lord take him back currently? In FFT he was delayed because he wanted to "help" Ramza defeat the Death Corps (and probably gain a bit of glory). What justification does he have to stay there? The same? Rescuing Ramza, instead? I'm relatively blank for the interim so...

Wiegraf is a humane man, but is not merciful. What reason would he have to keep Ramza? He even believed Tietra was Alma, the youngest Beoulve, yet told Golagros to set her free. So why would he keep Ramza? It would have to be by Miluda's bidding. She even says her brother is too naive. Ramza is indeed a fantastic bargaining chip in their faltering war. Keep him well, as is necessary for a hostage exchange.

How did I accidentally send you a PM? Sorry about that.

Allow equipment to both add and subtract stats, like -1 Speed for an especially powerful armor which is Always: Protect and Defend and has Innate Defense Up and a host of status immunities.  I need it because, for the most part, head and body equipment are the only pieces of equipment which provide always, immune, or starting status, and I need that because I can't ever get the enemy to not be a retard with equips, so every piece of equipment must be useful and unique, and almost all of it must be non-obsolete.

If we could find the AI scripts for battle and enemy equips, 90% of my hack would be irrelevant.

Speaking of that, anyone need anything on the wiki?
