No.  The Assassins are there.  You just need to have a really good eye for it.

Meatbone Slash deals damage = Max HP, so obviously it's going to do more damage than Chirijiraden inflicts, else the Meatbone Slashing unit would be dead.

Then again I don't really get the thrill that the "hardcore" get from 1.3. On the same breath they'll bash things such as math skill and Orlandu in Vanilla for being cheap (A fair criticism) then they turn around and pat each other on the back for using strategies like spamming power/mind ruin to render the enemy irreparably weak, or bringing four wizards with MA UP, an elemental strengthening rod and level 3/4 elemental spells to beat a chapter one fight or the good ol' SPAM QUICK ON REIS LOL strategy.

Somehow those aren't "cheap"... I guess because it takes more time to grind to a Sage Reis with Draw Out than to a wizard with math? The mind boggles.

Pretty much.

ABILITIES ACTIVATED WHEN IN CRITICAL STATUS:  These abilities will
activate Br% of the time if you receive HP damage (including 0 damage)
from ANOTHER unit and are in Critical status after that damage
resolves. It doesn't matter whether you were Critical before the damage
was dealt.
