Which Browser should have my immortal soul?

Started by Dokurider, February 28, 2010, 03:10:08 pm

Dokurider

I'll just rate the browsers I'm looking at, based on experience.

1. Internet Explorer
-Slow as hell, in fact, it's slowest of all browsers
  -Shitty Pop-up blocking
  -Not a lot of features
-Works with most, if not all, third-party programs

Rating: 1.5/5  I'm not sure which browser is best, but one thing I know for certain, IE SUCKS. I might use it if some program I'm trying to use isn't working with any other browser, but that only happened once. Alot of stupid features, like if you highlight text, some stupid graphic pops-up. Hate that. Crashes ALOT.

2. Firefox
-Faster than IE, but slower than Opera
  -Pretty good Pop-up blocking
-Lots of downloadable feature, really earns it's name.
-Works with alot of third-party features

Rating  3.5/5  Having a lot of features is fun, Screen Grab, and Video Downloading being some of my favorites. For doing little tricks like that, it's Firefox for me. Thing is, it's slowness hurts it's actual browsing abilities, if that makes any sense. In fact, until just recently, I've been having trouble updating my features. Crashes on occasion.

3. Opera
Fast, fastest browser I've encountered yet
  Excellent pop-up blocking, the best
There are some downloadable features, but not a lot developed yet.
  Not many third-parties support Opera

Rating  4/5  My current browser. My only grips about it is the mouse gestures (dunno how they work, wanna disable them, but don't know how to yet) and lack of support from third parties. There was one other thing, but I can't remember at the moment. Rarely crashes.

4. Chrome
  I dunno, speed seemed okay
Pop up blocking seemed okay, I didn't go to any pop up heavy sites though
  lol i dunno
It's developed by Google, it should have huge support, but I don't know that as a fact

Rating  ?/5  I really don't know, I haven't really had to chance to test it rigorously. I have my doubts about it, I originally had a good reason for not thinking it was any good, but I don't remember what it was anymore, but it just a gut feeling now.

5. Safari

Rating  ?/5  lol I dunno. I just downloaded this. I used it a few times on a Mac, but I don't remember my experiences that well. I downloaded it because apparently I can download videos without the need of a third-party program, and that would be important for me because I download lots of videos. We will just have to see.

6. Lynx

Rating   ???/5  A text-based browser??? Could be useful, as my internet connection at home is limited, so not rendering pictures can be very useful for me. We'll just have to see.

Thoughts?

Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

Mari

Meh, I use my browser a lot and it's IE. Doesn't ever crash for me and it's not slow.
I dunno about the features part because I have no use for them, though!
Personally, I don't see any use for another browser. (Except reason below.)

Only reason I even have mozilla firefox on my computer is because it has it's own seperate history, so I can look at my porn on that one and not have to worry about nosey friends!

Guess I'm not much help, unless you take my advice and use porn on a seperate browser.

As the puppeteer pulls His strings,
The fragile doll spreads Her wings.
To dance a ballet as He directs
That is the Curse of the Marionette.

Controlled by a hand far, far above,
Forbidden to care, forbidden to love.
Forever shall She mime what She cannot know,
Until the day She loses her illusory glow.

Propped up on a stilt where wine once stood,
The Marionette is, once more, only wood.
Her glossy eyes have lost their shine,
Her silken hair, turned to twine.

What a fate awaits the poor little doll,
Who dances and runs but cannot stand at all.
And the puppeteer is applauded at the end of every show,
But the audience's joyous response the doll can never know.

I am but a doll on an endless stage,
Dancing for others whilst I slowly age.
My puppeteer sits far above,
Hiding His face behind a white glove.

And when I have aged to nothing but wood,
I will be tucked away in a closet where a doll once stood.
Then, as I gather dust and the world passes by,
I will be forgotten by the vast, blue sky.

I roll with Chrome. Firefox is too slow on the startup and Chrome generally renders pages faster. It's a lot less nagging about updates as well. The only time I use Firefox or IE is when a webpage doesn't render properly in Chrome.

It recently got support for extensions added too. There aren't nearly as many as there are for Firefox yet, but most of the more popular ones already have an extension in Chrome.

Kokojo

I roll firefox. Never been disapointed.

I.E sucks in terms of Infection rates (100000000000000000000%)
Safari is just not well built and often comes with errors.
Opera... is just... not supported.

Never tried Chrome.
I keep leaving, I keep coming back. Boomerang boy.

I used to be a Firefox fan.  Then I ran Google Chrome.  Which is better in every conceivable way.  Seriously it makes Firefox look like shit on a stick.

Kaijyuu

I used to use IE, now I use firefox.

Besides ad blocker (and other addons), I find it no better.

(as for viruses and crap: I used IE without a firewall for 2 years without a single problem)

I run Firefox. Always does what I need it to.

I won't use Chrome till they remove the feature that chronicles your browser history.
Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness, bringing torment and pain to others. Oh damned soul wallowing in your sin, perhaps...it is time to die

There's always SRWare Iron, which is basically Chrome without that "feature."

Shade

Dukurider it depeds on your computer.

I heard IE works perfect on some computers.
On my computer in crashes before I get started with it.

WTF, only 3 quote trees????

Anyway, I use FireFox. Add Ons are so useful.
Adblock plus, Nico video downloader and XHTML Ruby support (for sites with Kanji) just to name a few that I have.

Trying out Chrome and Opera.

Take on Chrome:
Pros: Very Compact and slick. Does seem a bit faster than Firefox. Imports bookmarks from Firefox automatically.
Cons: Not having a bookmark tree by default is blasphemous and retarded at the same time. Needs to let me customize the toolbar, too.

Take on Opera:
...pending...
...
...
...fuck browsers that don't let me import bookmarks from firefox...
