Medion Akoya 15"
Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2GHz CPU
3GB DDR2 RAM
250GB storage (heh, 80 woulda been enough)
Unsure of graphics card :S
?450
Vista Home Basic (blech, no matter, I have discs for Ubuntu and Windows XP)

Nothing spectacular, of course, but still very functional for media, internet, writing, moviemaking, old games and emulators, and a very nice price.

Especially since my old laptop had a single 1.8GHz Intel Celeron CPU, 60GB storage, and around 750MB RAM, and a wireless card that lost signal to a router around 10 feet away up to 50 times a day...I'm sure you'll understand WHY I nearly put my fist through it.

On the flipside, I must reduce monthly expenditure from a max of ?60 to a max of ?20 for at most the next 11 months. :S

The processor is kinda of lame
to use a moviemaking software like Premiere you should have a little more
let's hope it's a good graphic card
if it is, then all is forgiven

€ you just suck

And these days they make components drivers without XP support. We tried installing XP on my brother's laptop and it was a total phailure. Fucking Vista.

EDIT: By that I meant that XP would still run the the solution was shit, graphical drawing on the screen was slow as fuck, no sound, no Internet, etc.

Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

Maybe that's why my old one couldn't install Ubuntu. I wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, XP Mode is only available in the Professional and Ultimate editions. It's been that way since around the time the feature was first announced.

I'm not sure which version of 7 I can get...*shrug*

I just realised I could probably run Fall From Heaven on Mega Maps, with so-so slowdown.

I'm not really into PC gaming TBH - aside from emulators I'm just interested in Morrowind, Civ 4, Diablo 2 and Dawn of War.

EDIT: Yup, it's premium.

MS has a special offer for college students where you can order Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional for $30. All you really need is a valid college e-mail address.

So I'll be getting Professional.

Well I live in Ireland, so *shrug*

But it's only 20 euro.

Nope. It's the fully licensed version.

http://www.win741.com/

The offer is good until January of next year, so you've got time to sit back and think about it if you're not sure about getting it just yet.

For those who are interested in getting Professional instead of Home Premium, because Professional is hidden away apparently, follow these steps (copy/pasted from another website).

NOTE: You can get the Professional version instead of Home Premium for $30 by doing the following

1. Register your e-mail address
2. Click the link in the Eligibility Confirmation e-mail you receive.
3. Note that Home Premium is automatically added to your cart. Notice that beneath the cart is a link that aks something about needing to join your University Domain or Domain Join (can't remember the exact wording).
4. IMPORTANT STEP: Click the link referring to Domain Join below the cart to add WIndows 7 Professional instead of Home Premium.
5. Complete the checkout process with Windows 7 Professional and save your confirmation e-mail.

What does professional offer over Premium?

Not like it matters to me.

More networking tools and Windows XP Mode. And unlike Vista Business, which doesn't have some media features Vista Home Premium have, W7 Professional will have all of the features W7 Home Premium have.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... ional.aspx

Home Premium will probably be all the average person needs, but I like to mess around with various settings to get the best setup for myself, so I'll be getting Professional. And they're both the same price under the offer, so there's no reason not to get Professional.
