Hey guys. The game came out on the Playstation Network today. I don't know anything about how applying patches work so I'm asking if you guys think you're able to patch a version of the game you download from the PSN and install on either your PSP or PS3?

I don't know about the PS3, but there are utilities that can turn any PSX game into PSP eboot file. So you can apply any patches you want to any PSX game then convert it to a PSP game.

^^^ This.

You won't be able to patch a PSX game downloaded off of the PSN since it's already been converted to an eboot file. And I'm sure there's plenty of DRM involved that would preclude any modification of the game or playing said modded game it on an unmodded system.

Just find an image of the game (or rip your own off of the disc), apply whatever patches you want to use, and convert it into an eboot.

Of course, that's all assuming you have custom firmware.
