I've been trying to insert the vincent craven sprite into the formation screen but after loading up gimp it seems that it only has 13 colors. Is their a way to increase the amount of colors with a sort of palette editor or should I begin looking for a new sprite to play with?

The sprites can have a max of 16 colors, they don't have to be 16. So a 13 color sprite is fine to mess around with. If you are looking for a sprite to just mess around with though then you should definitely use one of the original sprites, especially since the Vincent sprite is a bit wonky.

The problem is it dosen't seem to want to let me insert the sprite into the unit.bin with FFTEVGRP. Standard not a 16 color bitmap error keeps coming up.

Just downloaded the holy knight sprite, same issue. I crop the bmp to a perfect 24x40 and then load gimp as per the instructions on making sprites show up on the formation screen, but the directions from the how to thread say to index them to 16 colors, problem is the index box was already marked for both of them, and in order to index them to 16 colors I had to switch it to RGB mode (which is probaly not correct, but I wasn't sure what to do.). And if index them after switching them to RGB it dosen't work either as it brings them to too few colors and FFTEVGRP will not accept them.

Well I just used SNESPAL to go and change the palette to 16 colors, pulled it out with shishi, cropped tried to insert it with FFTEVGRP and still failure. I'm not really sure what is wrong anymore

Hmm.. I'm sure about this but..

Have you tried making it have 256 colors?

Yeah I tried that a couple times in the begining but I think I've figured out the answer after much trial and error. I believe the vincent craven was not working due to the fact that it seems one of the possible palette color locations( probaly from the horn from the summoner which its based on) was removed when he was making the sprite. I used SNESPal to color in various segments bright colors and one spot wouldn't show even though I made it neon green.  I just got the holy knight to work by recoloring it.

add 3 more colors to the palette, like bright green, bright blue, bright red

youll never see them but then youll have the standard 16 colors

try Gimp, its pretty good for doing palettes
