Creating / editing a sprite to include all of Ramza's poses

..is this doable..? I'm not sure if there's a different sprite sheet somewhere, but if I recall correctly, shishi shows the same poses for Ramza as for anyone else.. and it is fairly common knowledge that Ramza, as well as most other storyline characters, have additional poses that will cause minor glitches with custom sprites, that being that the original sprite will supersede the custom, but with the custom's palette...

So, again, my question is - can I / how can I access the full spritesheet for Ramza (at least) or any other 'storyline' character for the purpose of tailoring a custom sprite to meet the demand of in-game event poses? I imagine with basic graphic knowledge, as well as access to completed sprite files, that this would be a fairly simple task, if only tedious, assuming this IS in fact possible, as of yet...

Completely possible. Very very difficult. This should explain:

hah, thats an idea for easy eventchr stuff! have a few poses contained within a sprite 8 palettes possible 16 if you dont use the portraits. instead of using the actual eventchr

I'm not sure I entirely understood what you were trying to say, Zozma..

But WOW there's a lot of additional poses... haaa, I expected just a handful of head turns, and a few unique things like, receiving the scriptures, drawing the sword, etc... but WOW. I imagine most of the difficulty simply lies in combination with the number of additional poses, coupled with the fact that they can't be directly tested without either using the world debug (would that even work..? Never even tried it, really) or getting to 'that point' in the game....?

Azrael, they can be tested via event editing, if that what you meant

well an unused sprite can be used to hold some special character poses, instead of having to use a hex editor to reinsert them into event.chr is what i meant. and it can use up to 8 color palettes so it could be used for 8 diff characters

Does this work for me, but nothing will let me resave the ISO's as an ISO. I'm using WOTL. =\

Did you mean ENTD, Kokojo..? I'm not sure how that would help me test poses.. but then, the idea came to mind of just checking the brave story.....  ^_^

I meant, if you do such spritesheet, you could test it in a custom event, all the poses you put in there, and it should work. Sacrifice one spritesheet for some animation seems a good deal.

Ok, so if I understand this correctly...

Instead of bothering with a hex editor, which would be the direct method - inserting my desired sprite animations in place of the originals - I could use one of the 'blank' sprite sheets, solely for special 'event' animations... so, in my case of trying to overwrite Ramza'z poses, I would then after completing the spritesheets, go to ENTD and reassign Ramza to the newly created one?

I am feeling a little overwhelmed.. hehe.. I'm beginning to grasp the enormity of the task at hand, here.

So what exactly am I removing..? Do I just leave walking animations and remove everything else..?

I think I need a little more clarification as to what I'm doing... perhaps my problem lies in not fully understanding the mechanics behind the sprite sheet and how the game knows what cell is what.. or something like that..?

well in events for special frames from the eventchr the event specifies the cell by number. as far as looking at a sprite for one frozen cell i havent tested it, but it should work the same...

"Events" are well, events. To edit them, you should look here:
http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=444

The difference between them and the ENTD is that the ENTD just controls what units are on the board and their stats, while events are what makes text boxes pop up, special animations, opening doors, ect.
Unfortunately, I have zero experience editing them, so I can't give you any detailed advice.
