Okay forgive me if these questions are stupid but:

1. In item slots, like for equipment, what does the Enemy Level thing do? Is that the level the game will let the AI equip it randomly, or is that the level the AI would need to Throw it?

2. What does Rare do? Does that allow the enemy AI to equip it if its unchecked and have it sealed off if it is checked?

3. When editing a unit in the ENTD, what does the number next to Jobs Unlocked and UNDER "Y" do? Is that the level of the unlocked jobs?

4. If I check "Join After Event" for any enemy unit, does that mean he will join the party after the battle is over?

5. How do we ensure that the enemy will have access to all the skills it has in the jobs unlocked; does this have to do with the number next to jobs unlocked that I mentioned before?

Thank you for all the help guys.

QuoteOkay forgive me if these questions are stupid but:

There was a pretty good saying that was an alternative to "there are no stupid questions only stupid people", but I now forgot what it was. Anyway, it was good.

Quote1. In item slots, like for equipment, what does the Enemy Level thing do? Is that the level the game will let the AI equip it randomly, or is that the level the AI would need to Throw it?

Both

Quote2. What does Rare do? Does that allow the enemy AI to equip it if its unchecked and have it sealed off if it is checked?

Rare means AI will not be able to equip it on it's units, even if they have the level for it.

They will still be able to Throw / Drawout Rare items though.

Quote3. When editing a unit in the ENTD, what does the number next to Jobs Unlocked and UNDER "Y" do? Is that the level of the unlocked jobs?

Yes.

Quote4. If I check "Join After Event" for any enemy unit, does that mean he will join the party after the battle is over?

Yes.

Quote5. How do we ensure that the enemy will have access to all the skills it has in the jobs unlocked; does this have to do with the number next to jobs unlocked that I mentioned before?

Yes, but it also has to do with the Chance to Learn % value for each ability. If you want them to learn particular skills over others, set the Chance to Learn for those skills very high. Like 100%. JP costs and the order of the skills within a skillset will also affect this, as the AI goes down the list from first to last when deciding what to learn.

QuoteThank you for all the help guys.

arch, the only thing I can think of is "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask."
I changed jobs and that has made all the difference.

Sorry to bug you guys again, but I have a question about ENTD editing now...

If a particular random battle has only 5 people filled in by default, is it possible to add in more or can we only work within that 'limit?' I'm trying but my new enemies never show up.

The limit for most maps is 16 units, 12 for others -- and 9 sprites total, though the latter will only cause graphical glitches... they should still BE there.

If some guys aren't showing up, are you making sure their x/y position doesn't overlap with other units?

Thanks for the reply philsov. I was trying to edit Sweegy Woods East 1. I knew about the 9 sprites thing - when I do the random battle it includes 4 of my people (2 different monsters and 2 different special job sprites, just to test things out) and then 6 Archers and 2 Ninjas. That's less than 9 sprites total, so that's not the problem I think. Unless the palette changes count as additional sprites..do they?

Anyway, I thought all maps had a limit of 16 units, but now that I think about it the unit I add after the 6 Archers and 2 Ninjas makes the total character count 13, one over 12. I think that's the problem then.

I'm still confused though, because to experiment, I tried blanking out one of Archers near the top of the list and making him not present, then I tried adding the sprite again (below the list) in his same position (I was worried, like you said, about overlapping X/Y coordinates) and what happened was no one appeared in that position at all. Maybe the limits for maps also go for the physical location on the list?

Thanks a lot philsov!

Different palettes are fine.

And Sweegy is one of the 12ers.  I thought they all had 16 until recently too :p

I've a question related to this - what determines whether or not an item is available in shops?  I've noticed there are a few items with a shop location designated (Blood Sword) for example but which never appear in shops.  Blood Sword has the rare flag; however, the rare flag can't be the preventing factor, as all Bags also have the rare flag yet they appear in shops.

Is it just hardcoded what items can/cannot appear in a shop?

It is hardcoded and the FFTPatcher at the moment only lets you change when items/equip appear in shops for items/equip that already appear in shops regularly. So basically you can have a katana appear in chapter 1 but something like chantage that never appears in a regular shop can't be put it in yet with the patcher.

The wiki page has information on changing where certain items appear in terms of shops if you were interested in changing that.
