so yeah, why was the princess kidnapped in the first place? dycedarg masterminded the whole deal so as to discredit goltana; but why would having the princess kidnapped necessarily accomplish that? if anything, the one to be discredited would be larg, as he had the most to gain from the princess being taken out of the picture. i'm sure there's some huge, glaring point that i'm missing, but i can't seem to see it. assistance please?

disclaimer: i'm a nincompoop, no need to inform me of that fact.

p.s. - is there a different, more appropriate forum for such queries?

The Princess was supposed to be "kidnapped" by Goltana, when in reality it was the Church's troops sacrificing themselves for this mission. Though Larg did also have a false kidnapping force that Gafgarion was to defeat to show he was in earnest, it was past this that everything went wrong.

One thing very underlied but only said in the Brave Story is that Ovelia was raised by Duke Larg. I don't think the people would suggest that the Duke would have, basically his surrogate Daughter (technically Niece though) killed or put away.

To add on to the above, the purpose of the whole scheme was to frame Goltanna for Ovelia's kidnapping and planned death. If everything had went according to plan, the only other legitimate heir to the throne besides Orinus would be dead (Ovelia) and the only other contender for regent to Orinus would be under investigation for treason against the Crown (Goltanna).

I thought she was pretty much raised by Simon.

The brave story mentions that she was put in the care of Duke Larg, and probably raised until old enough to be shipped off to a monastery. I'd say ten or twelve, if I had to guess, in any case, she mentions also meeting Alma in another monastery before Orbonne, so she was apparently moved around a bit.

This is what i've been wondering, if Ramza had brought the scriptures public what would've happened?

Nothing, he was only a heretic after all, the only people that had power with the Germonik Scriptures (that seemed to know of them) were either Simon or Barinten. Simon would have deeply divided the faith (since he was a renowned theologist), and would have been all but untouchable, because of his status. Barinten however could have started a war against the Church with the immense support he enjoyed from the common people. I believe Barinten planned to give the Church an ultimatum, help him, or face extinction. with the church's support he could have entered the war with the largest backing, and possibly have succeeded in toppling Larg and Goltana (alternatively, Larg and Goltana may have joined forces to take him out, but with the Church's support that would be all the more difficult). If the Chuch was exposed for lying to their flock all this time, Barinten would have still had a long way to go, because the Church would throw their support behind Larg and Goltana, and thereby it would have again been put two on one, with the odds stacked against Barinten.
