Hi I'm just posting this up to ask for basic sprite editing help as I can't really find a tutorial anywhere :( It'd be a great idea to make some kind of tutorial for others to use as many people are probably as clueless as I am when starting out.

Anyways, any help to my questions would be greatly appreciated as Im anxious to make my own sprite but frustrated at the fact that it's so confusing when dealing with Graphics Gale. Thank you guys!

Alright, first of all, MS PAINT PWNED!!!! Haha
Ehem...ok, for spriting purpose, use Ms paint. For other editing purpose, example, palettes swap and editing, use other programs like GraphicGale.

Alright, first, on replacing/cutting arms, legs, heads - use Ms paint to do all this (for me that is). Once you cut/replace and it fits your desire, then change palettes or the other way round. Example, if you want to replace Agrias's arms with let say, Shrine Knights' and use Shrine Knights palettes, so what you have to do is change Agrias's palettes to Shrine Knight's palettes so that you won't go above 16 colours. Even if you went above the colour limits, you can always remove the extra colours, example, identical colours, to make it back to 16 colours.

For change palettes, I'm not sure how to work it with GraphicGale, because I use GIMP, as what Smash suggested. Though, now GraphicGale is better than GIMP. So, use GraphicGale. Perhaps someone with more experience on this like, mav (has done a tutorial on how to use GraphicGale) may explain it better to you.

Anyway, good luck and Welcome to FFH ^^
Kindly upload the images to other image hosting sites. I can't view imageshack. Thanks.

Thanks :]

I get what you mean by changing palettes before hand and all but when it comes to using ms paint the problem would be how to exactly cut along the edges of the sprite pieces :( any idea on how to do that?

Well, unfortunately, you'll have to clean them up manually, that's what I did though. It does slow down your spriting progress and I don't know how to do this faster.
Here's an example:

I do this with Ms paint. Maybe some do this with GraphicGale,

QuoteLooks like GraphicGale is much better than GIMP.
For palette and\for pixel editing, yes.
I'm not sure though ^^

xDD I see I see so one last thing.. when you do attach parts you color them so that they have the same palette before hand right? D:

Yeah ^^
But if you want to choose parts that fits your desire, you could do like what I did, replace parts, see if they fits, then swap the colours. Though its bit troublesome and double works.

If I am pulling a Frankenstein spriting project - I would use Photoshop to do all the editing.  Then use GIMP to reduce the palette and use Graphics gale to edit the palette and place the portrait in.
