Editing Snipe

Hey everybody this is my first post, I've been stumbling around the site for about a week now. I've played around with most of the tools to varying degrees of success. I've changed around other skillsets fine, modifying the abilities after Parasite and switching them out for Guts. When I try to do the same thing with Snipe only the 2nd and 3rd abilites from the top appear in battle, regardless of what those two abilities are.

The first time I tried I was repatching a .bin file, then i tried on a clean .bin, then on a clean .img. I made sure that in Action Menus snipe was set to default but that's what it was as anyways. I've searched the forums but anything I saw similar said to play with Action Menus. Right now I changed snipe then switched it as a knight primary because I don't have a save with mustadio yet. Would that have anything to do with it or am I just missing something?

That's your problem. You can't change skill set on generic jobs. It works fine on special units, but there's something funky about how generics are programmed causing them to glitch if the default skill set on any job is changed.

Wait, do you mean if you change the skillset as a whole, or if you change any ability within the skillset?

Ah. No problem then, just a little more awkward. Edit the abilities in FFTPatcher, change the skillset name in TacText. Job done.

I changed specific abilities within snipe, and switched around who could use snipe to test it out, made it look good with tactext. I ended up just hacking in mustadio on a save and it worked fine with him.

Now the only problem is before I actually use a skill in battle it won't give me a preview of the dmg or the percentage it will hit. I think that has to do with what abilities I overwrote.

what I did was overwrite the abilities beneath parasite and switched them out for guts, works fine
then I altered the bard songs gave them new names and added them to snipe, actually abilities work fine but no preview.

I'm gonna try changing them from the songs and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for both of your help, that's good to know about generics for future reference.

EDIT: patched it over different skills and everything works fine, so it just seems to be song/dance abilities that have that problem.
