Ok, I've been following FFTactext's readme and the thread here at http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtop ... t=helpmenu to figure out what files affect what text. Essentially I have edited ability descriptions and would like to make sure they show up in all locations (world map, pre-battle formation, in-battle).

So far as I can tell and from what's been written so far, ATCHELP.LZW affects pre-battle info, WLDHELP.LZW affects the world map info, and HELPMENU.OUT affects in-battle info. WORLD.BIN is also somehow involved in all of this (as far as I can tell Tactext is kind enough to edit WORLD.BIN appropriately when you edit other files without actually requiring to open WORLD.BIN; I know touching that file has a history of screwing things up, and that's not my issue right now.)

However, there's another snag. There's actually two separate in-battle descriptions for ability descriptions - the one you get when you hit select on the action menu to check an ability (for example, hit Black Magic, go to Fire, hit select), and the one you get on a unit's status screen (go to Status for a unit, hit confirm, go through their unlocked jobs and learned abilities and hit select).

My ability description edits don't appear to be showing up for this latter status screen in-battle. They work literally everywhere else (the normal in-battle menu is fine, the PBF is fine, world map is fine). I've double and triplechecked all the files editable by FFTactext to see if I was missing any files that have ability descriptions and no dice. Even pulled up WORLD.BIN through a hex editor to see if the old vanilla FFT ability descriptions are stored there (they aren't). Anyone got an inkling on where this is located?

I suggest you get the newest text editor, it should come bundled with the FFT Patcher downloadable on the site if memory recalls.

the last version of fftpatcher was uploaded back in 2008.  I think vayna uploaded the most recent version (which should be coupled with SB's battle.bin) in this topic.

If it's actually done, I'd really like a more formal release and something off in the download portion on the main site, but it's an ongoing WIP, so whatever.

As for editables  (Note:  this is for the psx version.  there may be some discrepancy with the psp version):

Additionally if you're making some sweeping changes (changing the name of a class, for example, because then you have to edit every single item description), I highly recommend the texter utility:

philsov: thank you kindly, that was exactly what I was looking for. Turns out I've been using an antiquated version of FFTactext all this time (it was bundled with one of the FFTPatcher downloads).

Does this version still have issues if you try to edit WORLD.BIN, or have those been resolved?
