Yeah which I guess is easy when your airtight definition includes phrases like "emotional response". A troll can literally be anything according to that bullshit definition. As a girl with cancer, she wasn't disruptive or inflammatory and if your definition of trolling extends beyond that to provoking feelings of sympathy then what the fuck are you upset at exactly re trolling? No, it wasn't. There was no controversy, no emotions provoked (outside of what is normally discussed in CE, which is everything, including cancer), and no disruption of anything.

That is, until, the truth came out.

And Rain4h didn't reveal the truth. Someone else did. Had this other person not uncovered anything, no disruptions would have occurred. You can call it trolling if you want, but the fact is that Rain4h didn't want it to be considered trolling, he was rather serious about it all. I can get you a conversation between me and him on AIM if you want. He never considered himself a troll or out to hurt anyone. He did anyway, though, when the truth came out. And at that point he wasn't in control anymore, the evidence was. So yeah, I would say intent does mean something.

Anyone can say "hey guys, I'm a girl!" and have internet peeps believe it, then laugh it up to themselves. But it takes more than just lulz to develop relationships with dozens of people based on a fake identity, you know? If it was just a random troll attempt people wouldn't be taking it seriously.

It's easy to not get it when you didn't get constant interaction from Rain4h for over a year like I did (and the people from CE and elsewhere).

Rain4h didn't tell me he wasn't trolling, it is just obvious by how he handled everything that it was more than just a troll for lulz

Rather than say how fubar my definition is, provide your own so I can at least pick holes in that one as well.  But, like you said, it's largely irrelevant so as for why you say something like that and then keep this up is beyond me.

I do apologize, but you are giving the boy a bit too much credit here. You're taking what he says at face value, when plainly he has given us ample reasons for us to Not do so. An attitude can be manufactured, emotions (especially online) falsified. This kid is no different from the rest of the "girls" (I mean that as guys who pretend to be girls, not all girls) on the internet. I've seen this happen before and my experience in these matters lead me to believe someone cannot have an honest motive in what they do, if they aim to decieve. If it's one lie, what stops another? I do admit I am a rather jilted person, when my trust is broken it stays broken. I feel trust is something that cannot be rebuilt. When it's a lie like this, that is simply too much, that person would simply be ex-communicated to me. I guess that makes you a better man then I, to actually talk to the fellow who's been tricking you for about a year now.

I don't talk to him anymore, but this whole thing has been so weird and pointless that understanding it just escapes me

I feel the need to clear something up here, as I was guilty of this when I was young(er) and stupid(er).

It's a selfish vie for attention, but not a malicious one. There are many forms of deceit. This is a manipulative one for self gain at little to no expense of those they are deceiving, or at least that's the intention.

Expecting someone who lies about their gender to lie about more important things is rather ridiculous. If I had stolen a candy bar from the grocery store, would you expect me to rob a bank? This is one of the most innocent lies there is; lying to gain attention with little to no consequence to anyone unless the truth comes out.

Chalk it up as childish and leave it at that. That's all it is.

I'm more concerned about this book he's supposedly writing. It sounds painfully dull, pretentious and pointless. All that work over the last year for.. that? This is definitely a case of attention whoring for "art," and the "artist" is convinced he's more clever than he actually is. Ah, my dear friend... basically responsible for creating a number of the main skillsets in Mercenaries, but alas we all move on eventually and his connection here was tenuous, I do hope that he eventually stops in again though.
