well, there is a few reasons for it that I can understand

Reason one is if we (for some weird reason) talk about another game/book etc, or some person shows up whom has never played FFT before.

Reason two is that it does look pretty cool, and can be used for humorous jokes.

Reason three is that it is easy with little real downside

The final (and most important reason) is that with it you can take long messages (like this) and sort them into easy to read sections (like so)

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
