FFT The Ivalice Chronicles!

FFT is officially getting Remastered!

We're excited to see that FFT is getting a well-deserved re-release, and a lot of us are also excited to crack it open and mod it! However, this wont necessarily be a quick or easy process, as we're unsure how much they've changed the game since its PSX and PSP releases (we do not attempt to mod the mobile ports).

Check out #the-ivalice-chronicles channel in our Discord to find info and discuss the game! There's a mega-post pinned with tons of links to additional details and purchase options.

In the meantime, check out the WIP and Completed Mods sections of the forum if you want to get your fix of FFT before the The Ivalice Chronicles releases.

What does this mean for modding?

PSX hacking isn't going anywhere any time soon. Most tools are designed for PSX, and tools are vital for modders.

Console versions are effectively not moddable without direct support for that from the developer, which is unlikely.

As for PC, Square Enix has generally been tolerant of modding. But there won't be tools, and new ones will need to be built. The game also comes with Denuvo Anti-Tamper, which will need to be bypassed. The hope is that with more people getting fired up by a new release, we'll have more talent to make the tools and the mods.

Until we know more (likely, the day of release), it is too difficult to say what will and wont be possible to change, but assume everything will be difficult until someone releases a hack/mod that accomplishes it. We are cautiously optimistic that "smaller" changes like image, sound, and text edits will be easier than other game modifications but again, it's too soon to say for sure.

Porting existing PSX/PSP mods will not happen any time soon, if ever. Do not expect any mods to be ported unless the author explicitly says they are actively working on it after release, and please do not spam mod authors with requests to do so, regardless of the original release date of the mod. If they want to, they will announce it.

Thank you!

I haven't been this optimistic in a decade. Hope you fellas work your magic per usual 🤙
Here's to hoping they dont drop a turd but actually do it justice this time!

I respect anyone with the knowledge to design tools for any game I mod. From total war, Rotk, Dragon age etc. That being said. Some of the best mods I ever used/created came from people with no knowledge of tool creation but a great knowledge of the tool. Some people can use the tools you make better than you. Saying a lack of that particular skillset doesn't make you a good/great modder is like saying using a game engine you didn't code makes you a crap game designer or a mechanic that didn't design the wrench is a bad mechanic. Stay humble. Everyone has different skillsets. Everyone contributes differently.

It's looking like a turd already, no confirmation of WotL content being implemented into either game... I'll keep my fingers crossed but we're getting some drip-feed here.

What a disappointment.  I really just wanted to be able to play the multiplayer modes over Steam.
No WotL, no buy.

I think I will play the modded versions too. The remaster is just a reskin.

So the definitive version of FFT is basically the PS1 FFT Remixed Mod or the more 'vanilla' PS1 FFT Lion War Mod.

For the PSP version, I personally like the Unreal mod. Doesn't change too much of the core gameplay compared to the others.

Remember when ports of Final Fantasy games had additional content to satisfy both new players and others that played the game on the original console? Can't even get that now with modern Square.
This is literally just the same game as the PSX but with voice-acting and a sharpness filter plastered on. No dark knight class , no extra weapons , no additional cutscenes and the "new content" you have to pay for just changes Ramza's sprite a different color
I know they lost the source code but they really had us starving for nearly two decades and this is what we get? Incredibly disappointed. I really hope that this isn't $80
People that are new to the franchise will enjoy it more but I feel like there should've been more done here than the bare-minimum

Rumor is that they started it in 2018 too. 7 years when the original took 13 months!

Then "fans" claim everything is "originally preserved" as the reason for not wanting the PSP content despite Matsuno dumbing-down the dialogue for voice actors in the original Japanese script as well as the English one. That or they move the goalpost and say it is for a "modern audience." Yeah, look how well those niche games sell when they're made for normies.

They should have made the experience better but instead just lazy ported it once again. Mobile UI, voiceovers, and some filler dialogue isn't worth it. Then they charge full-price.

Sorry for the rant. This is one of my favorite games of all time. The whole company has it's head up it's ass.

They could just add some extra if they build it from scratch. Maybe not WOTL contents but they could add many extra feature like jobs or equipments. They added the preorder equipments that means they can add some features but they don't do it.
Also not being able to steal from Elmdor is lame. That is the only fun part from that fight.
But the 50 party size is nice though if it's true, though it could just be a monster farm if people can't mod the game.
