I do not think that we should have a social channel. If we were it would be like creating a spam/general folder for IRC. Also in doing so, the regular Hacking Channel will be a lot more dead, while the other is more lively. You have had the IRC channel for whatever for so long, and it seems to ahve worked out just fine with it being a social hangout/Hacking Q/A

I think the best way to go about this then would be to reinforce to people that they can easily make their own "serious" channel whenever they feel they need it, and invite people to it.

"You, no less human than we? Ha! Now there's a beastly thought. You've been less than we from the moment your baseborn father fell upon your mother in whatever gutter saw you sired! You've been chattel since you came into the world drenched in common blood!"

I like the things they are right now, so I voted for no.

I don't understand. I've always been serious in chat.
I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here someday burns down, and I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away and I never come back to this town again.

Agreed.

Changing my vote, well you can't but imagine I did. nothing gets done without a serious channel as tonight has shown, that meeting was hella productive

RavenOfRazgriz

That went basically how it should, though.  If that channel were "official", unless something were in immediate need of getting done, it'd just be dead.  It's much better this way.  We have a pressing issue, we form up, handle it, disband.  It's always productive, but that's because it only ever forms in a time of need.  This way, people won't be going to the chat expecting something and getting nothing when it's idle, or walking into a huge meeting of us handling something important when they need something completely different.
