is there anyway to increase the number of free slots for items, jobs, abilities?

because in the psp version anyway there just aren't enough spaces for what i'm trying to do... especially in the abilities section. thanks!

Sadly, no. For jobs though, you can make more special jobs by using jobs you never see in battle, like Arch Duke.
