General N00b Help Please...

Hello forum people, I'm VERY new to this entire idea... I have Final Fantasy Tactics for PSX, and i have a PS2 that is old and cantankerous... it doesn't want to run anything anymore without a severe beating, so i got an emulator and a rom for FFT. i don't feel bad for doing so because i actually own the merchandise in question. i stumbled onto your site recently, and am very curious on how to edit things and have a lot of fun with new classes and spells and story line as you all have seemingly done so far. i'm also not very tech savvy... i constantly need help doing things with my computer and hopefully whoever decides to help me will have patience. if you could make a VERY easy to understand walk through, or dumb down one of the current ones, it would be greatly appreciated. things like FFTorgASM files confuse me, but my brother pointedly remarked that the word orgasm was very apparent lol. so, in short please help, or not, it's your choice. but please remember that i actually put this in the help forum.

Thanks in advance?

Ha.  points for lurking around first.

WELCOME TO FFH, WHERE ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.

Most of the stuff most people want to edit is part of the fftpatcher bundle, with a download link available on the front page.

fftpatcher is the big utility for most people -- this is where you can edit abilities, jobs, items, skillsets, and the ENTD.  ENTD is the actual battle information, so you can do stuff like have 11 people ambush you at Golgarond or give queklain some minion helpers or something.  most of it is self explanatory.

Along with fftpatcher there's shishi sprite editor, which lets you insert custom sprites for characters

And fftactext enables you to change in-game text so you're not stuck looking at an ettera sheet the whole time -- like if you make a piece of armor +50 HP, you can set up its description to actually be +50 in game.  Same goes for custom classes/abilities as well.

Past THAT, there's the event editor which lets you change events and script, an attack.out editor that lets you change party starting positions in battle, loads up battle maps (you can use cutscene-only maps as battle ones, e.g.), songs played during the fights.  And then there's a few more obscure hacks like the ability requirement hack that will only allow abilities used at certain times, like to use a Cleave ability you'd need to be equipped with an Axe or to use Holy you'd need to be in the priest class -- a map editor to change or create new maps -- an effect editor to insert new summons and graphics for abilities -- a few others that escape me at the moment.

FFTorgASM is a utility that will patch certain functions onto your game using ASM programming.  Most of these functions are pretty cool, like innate Weapon Guard or increased proc chances.
Just another rebel plotting rebellion.
