Is it possible to make another character besides Ramza the leader
in battle. I want to keep him as the game's main character but
I don't want him in every battle of the game. Can you do it with
FFTPatcher or is it something that must be done in ASM?

Hmm.. .what do you exactly mean? There's a way to not have him be "required" in the Attack.out settings, but then you'd need to plan that accordingly for each battle. And That's a lot of work.

I wanted another character to be required as leader in the battle formation
for some battles in the game.  Can it be done by changing some hex values
in Attack.out? Thank you for your help.

Not... to my knowledge. The game looks for Ramza 1,2, or 3. There might be a way to manipulate this by giving one of the later Ramza's a different sprite and everything...? But that's fully untested to my knowledge, should be easy to actually test though.

perhaps a simpler solution would be to have a 'guest' member brought in so that they're always there, and just make them controllable?

That's a good idea. Is there a limit on guest slots in the formation? If so, does anyone know how many?
