Ok I know I'm new, so forgive me a bit, but I made a topic yesterday trying to get some help for a new FFT hack (I want to change the characters to classic/popular game characters to use and change the overall game, but keep the actual battle mechanic/gameplay). However now the topic is locked and I had no responses, so I'm not sure what I did wrong and I still got no help. I'm totally new to hacking just about anything so I know I need to really practice with the downloads and stuff from FFH.com but could I also please get some guidance as to why it was locked and maybe some guidance as to what to do for the hack I'm attempting?

the topic got locked because of the sticky in new projects -- which is a bit militant but its better than the opposite; every week or so there's someone new to the site who has this great idea but doesn't understand how to hack, or knows the current limitations, and then expects the rest of the community to do all the grunt work while they just "advise".

imo it sucks that all the newest ideas are either shoved into mass topics (new skills/new jobs/etc) or snuffed out, but it really does cut down on the signal to noise ratio.

Buuuut, most of what you're proposing is simply a matter of changing some stuff up in fftpatcher and shishi (and with shishi, actually making said custom sprites).  Which isn't too hard, but you do need to familiarize yourself with the programs.  The biggest thing is there is little to no free space.  You need to remove other classes and other skills to introduce new ones.  Like you can gut Agrias and Musty and Cid and everyone else so you can use their classes for Mario et all and their new skills.

Using Mario as an example:

Jump (use Worker 8's formula and animation) = PA-based damage from a range
Fireball = MA-based damage that's fire elemental with a range and possibly MP cost
Cape Spin = PA-based damage around the user (kinda like spinfist)
One-Up = self-only, inflicts Reraise
Super-star = inflicts haste, protect, and shell onto the target.  Large MP cost.
P-wing = casts float to a large area.

etcetcetc.
Just another rebel plotting rebellion.

That is actually quite helpful philsov! Now that I'm at home (and when I get time from a pregnant wife/college/work) I'll download just about everything and try to use them. Once things get rolling I'll try to head to mass topics to flesh out the ideas of characters (since I kinda want a few classes for each for different looks and such) and I will definitely need to enlist help for custom sprites, so we'll see how that goes  :). Again, more thanks than u know!
