Journey of the Five Ch.1 / Re: Chapter 2 Progress Log

No worries, I started the whole hard mode conversation/shitfest and then went mia while I fixed my car and played lost odyssey
(BTW Lost odyssey is still completely free for 4 more days! No gold membership needed and you should get to keep the download forever on 360, not sure how it works on xbone though. )

Hopefully my thoughts on hard mode are a little more clear after my last post, but I pretty much have the same exact thoughts as DaTruth. Not asking for a hard mode/suicide mode, but I would support it if it ever was developed. I do like the current difficulty on JOT5 though. As we have seen there are a ton of different play styles and I've always thought they did very good in creating a middle ground.

I Just got caught up on all the posts in the last couple weeks, and I got a few good laughs out of em lol. Lovin the suggestion for "oh god why" version, consider it done! I still think I should add an elric sprite in there, I probbaly won't have him attack or anything, just have him sit in the middle of the battlefield with a facepalm the whole time lol.

I don't think anybody can say the creator of ffhacktics isn't a real gamer  ;) I respect everyone's play styles, I enjoy challenges and casual gaming depending on the occasion. I do like when games mix both, I'm not a big fan of the newer rpgs but I always loved the casual feel of rpgs where you can roam/explore and then they throw in an bunch of optional dungeons, superbosses and etc. The good ol' days

I've been a preoccupied with finals for school, my car breaking down and I finally bought a game that was recommended to me on here. The game, Lost Odyssey, was stupidly purchased before my semester was over and I spend countless hours playing it when I should have been concentrating on school

Even worse yet a week after I bought it, they decided to offer it as a free download on xbox 360/one until Dec 31st. It is truly a fucking fantastic game and if you own a xbox and have not played it yet, well go download it right now! It takes just barely over 16 GB since it's a 4 disk game, but you could always put it on a flash drive if have one large enough laying around.

Well, if you really hate yourself that much we could do something like increase the amount of JP required to learn skills and to get Job Levels. 600 JP to learn Potion it is! And job level 3 enemy Knights will have fully Mastered their jobs.

To help you figure out whether you're playing the "oh god why" version, we'll replace Snake with a poorly sprited Raiden.

But no, seriously, I can't imagine there being too much of a demand for a harder version. IMO, if you want a harder playthrough, you'd probably be better off with a self-imposed challenge of some kind, like never changing out of your base jobs.

Now you've done it, I am going to create the "oh god why" version. Instead of JUST replacing snake though, I am going to replace the entire team ;). Except I might insert one Elric sprite to travel with this merry band of Raidens lol. It'll be like the family guy robin williams episode
( This is a joke btw lol I feel I need to clarify that before I get white knighted )

Nah really though Elric nailed it, I wasn't suggesting anything at all.

I would personally love a harder version ( not to replace the original version, since I would still probably play the original first ). I just don't enjoy the "no X challenges". To me they are artificial difficulty that people create because they have become so bored with a game they have played dozens of times, that they need to cripple themselves for a challenge. So 600 jp for potion would not be a difficulty I would even play.

I more like the difficulty where the only way to win is to take advantage of every available resource, you are forced to create a unique strategy for every situation, and you end up dying several times before that happens. JOT5 encourages these concepts, but it is also designed to be forgiving because most people are not like me. Most ppl don't enjoy dying and having to struggle with every battle. Everyone has their own way play styles and preferences, and it is designed to be a sort of middle ground. Which I completely understand and I have never once suggested that it be changed. Simply that if there was a suicide version of the game, I would definitely play and enjoy it.

I do like that name though, and I suggest if a hard mode ever is released that it should be named suicide version  ;)

Just to clear this up (again), I never once said JOT5 was easy, and who cares even if I did think it was easy. That's my opinion and you are welcome to disagree with it, but no lol I am not going to make a video just to "prove" to you that I never died once. Especially since we've had this exact conversation multipe times, and have already said that I died multiple times during my first playthrough. Most, if not all of my deaths were carelessness or because I was unprepared, like stupidly changing everyone to a new class and etc. The point is I enjoy dying, well not so much the dying part more the fact that the enemy was able to beat me, and I enjoy battles that are absolute hell. Most people probably don't.

Yeah, I mean if i'm the only interested in it, I don't even see a point. Of course who knows once the complete game is released, there might be more people  interested in a more challenging version. So maybe we can discuss it then or something. I mean editting dificulty would be something fans could even do too, since the story, events and hacks would all be done. Hard part would be actually increasing difficulty while maintaining balance and trying to decipher your system for storing data in FFTP. Course like you said, I'll just hold my horses for a while  ;)

Speaking of FeelGood edition.... Is developers edition still going to be released sometime? Or an even scarier edition?

Seriously, I have absolutely no clue what you're doing to trigger this, and it doesn't look like anyone else does either. Have you tried looking at the save/game IDs after the fact?

And if you do think a European ISO might be the cause of a problem, download a US ISO and find out.

Beat me to it, I was going to suggest trying a different version too.

On another note... you are using FFTPatcher to change the abilities? Are you using the psp options for patching?

I mean you are just going to have to troubleshoot, if you are going to get into hacking you might want to get used to this sort of thing. Gonna be a lot of game breaking shit going on.
Emulator issue maybe?

I don't think vanilla(the original) ever got a gba release. So you most likely played Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Decent game, had some neat concepts and etc but the original (which is the heart of this site) is SO much better (imo). Not only that but they do some awesome stuff here, so you should def check it out sometime!

Ummm.... you lost me there.

I guess I'd be better off just not messing with it at all?

Yes, don't mess with it unless you don't want people loading saves from other fft mods/games in your mod. Since all FFT games/mods would share the same default ID, unless it is changed they would be able to load a save from vanilla or another mod into your mod. I accidently loaded a save from a mod(I think it was CoP?) into a vanilla rom once and it crashed pretty hard.

That's interesting I always wondered why some mods can load other fft saves and jot5 doesn't.

*edit* I noticed you said speed fix hack, I assume you are doing WoTL? You will be severly limited in what you can change with the current knowledge/tools.

http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=11535.0 Here's a brief overview of the limitations compared to PSX version

Spoiled whiny children, I will miss you. You provide me with countless hours of entertainment with your nonsense and contradictions. Hopefully when the re-release comes out, there will be more of them around.

Man these guys were relentless too, even when you explain the logic behind the mechanics or tell them it's going to be changed.

Lol the best one was..
"I demand you guys make a guide!"
Everyone else: "Plenty of LPs out there and a wiki"
"I don't want that shit I like to do my own thing"

Initial warning....I not a wizard like xif and emmy. I just popped in to post a link that may help you understand the battle conditions codes.

However, I also noticed you are missing an opening tag <patches>

Here the link for a tutorial on battle conditions http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6694
Well.... depends.

Underleveled, avoid the tortoises and hopefully you saved before the battle.

Otherwise a small hint
The tortoises use mostly earth(?) ground based attacks

I actually think you have done pretty good on the art, especially considering you suck at art lol. I know the feeling, artistic is just something I am not.
I think this map looks pretty damn good, besides the lack of texture at the moment, but I'm assuming you just haven't gotten there yet.

The only thing I can suggest from looking at all of your work so far...the trees need a bit of touchig up. Wish I could give you specifics. Maybe this will help?

Really, I think you are doing fantastic work man and not only that but you are improving too. I see lots of potential here. I'll pop back in soon and give more feedback on everything else new you've added ( when I'm not supposed to be writing a 8 page essay on VPNs  )

This is Dante so I am going to say he uses the word prick a lot so maybe that isn't such a huge factor.

He said honorless prick though, so I'd say it's probably more than just Dante being Dante.

I do like Pandemonlu's theory that he turns out being a good guy in the end, maybe he was just testing you or something. Would fit well with my theory too, that the CS is pulling the strings. OR maybe it is the CS.

My guess is this is an event that occurs later in the game. All of the 5 (sans Ramza, and maybe Snake) have a pre-determined 'ultimate weapon' in their respective games - with Link's obviously being the Master Sword. Maybe your team has considered adding popular ultimate weapons for each character, like in any good Final Fantasy, and this is the 'side-quest' for Link's? Maybe this coliseum offers a different challenge each time you visit and of course can be re-visited? Not sure if this is even possible

I was thinking the same thing with the utimate weapons. Something I just thought of though, Dante, Cloud and Link have a ton of "ultimate weapons", but I wonder what Ramza and Snakes ultimate weapon would be? Ramza's could be a crafted weapon or something, but what would snake's be? A really good dagger or bow? Maybe it's not even a weapon, but one of his fancy cloaking devices or something, or the cool bong in the background of the new shop

Awesome, freakin love cactuars. I hope they are as badass as they are in the other ff series games. Since this is JOT5 we are talking about, I putting my money down that they will be even better. Theres so many of them... this is gonna be a tough fight actually lol. Wonder if you can invite one or if you can learn any special abilities for the animist...
Dante and Snake need a sequel lol they crack me up
Also you may want to edit it out that you had to admin nyzer's post. I can still guess what was mentioned   ;)

Which one was ruby? The one that could eliminate two of the party members? Oh that was my favorite one actually haha, loved the intense 1v1 battle.
You should add the lack of community support, knowledge, etc. It is pretty much implied with the lack of documentation, but still would help get the point across, you are pretty much on your own if you decide to mod wotl.

I love the title and that it's in the wotl hacking section lol

If I was a towel, why would I be wearing this hat and fake mustache?

Ha I never thought of it like that, it would explain why he is so quiet in the game. "Yeah! We did it! We saved the world!"

Yeah I definitely considered that too.

I thought it may have been found by somebody, or it might even be the cloaked stranger pulling strings again. Maybe he gave the weapon to somebody, and then played the puppeteer to bring everybody to the tournament.

Or it's gilgamesh lol. He is kinda a prick.

Yeah no worries Elric, that's exactly what makes this so damn good. I'd much rather sacrifice time, than quality.
