That also limits the amount of stuff you can do, which I find annoying. I don't always like having a specific mission.
We will build cities in a day, we will build towers to the heavens. We will be heroes.
This sleeping city doesn't know what's coming. She doesn't feel the heat.
Even when the darkness surrounds us, we shall light up the night.

Exactly most MMOs don't tell you what to do you can just wander around and do nothing for hours and still accomplish something of some kind.
Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness, bringing torment and pain to others. Oh damned soul wallowing in your sin, perhaps...it is time to die

I would seriously recommend looking at Gamemaker. Apparently, it's free to download. Not sure if that means as a trial or not. It's a little hard to believe that's it's completely free.

You can make a fairly decent game with GM7 Lite. The Pro Edition is about $20, and it adds alot to the experience and functionality (I have yet to purchase it. However, it would take an ENORMOUS amount of effort to create an FFT-like experience in GM. There are so many variables to handle, its insane scary. Hell, I'm bogged down when making a Zelda game based on other people's engines (which I can post a demo of if you'd like an example of what GM can accomplish with just the free version).
It is, however, one of the easier programs I've used, and I'm even more comfortable with it than I am with RPG Maker 2003.
That said, I'll go post a topic pretaining to my Zelda fangame now...
We will build cities in a day, we will build towers to the heavens. We will be heroes.

But in all seriousness, I don't care how hard it is. I just care if it's possible. So is it?

Very much so, if you're willing to put in the effort. And it would totally be worth it.
We will build cities in a day, we will build towers to the heavens. We will be heroes.

I wonder where's Havermayer is? It's his dream.

Anyways, after looking at a Gamemaker tutorial, I've deduced the following:

1. Sprites, backgrounds, the graphical footwork is the easy part. It's just tedious and time-comsuming is all.
2. I have no idea how the camera is going to go.
3. The single biggest hurdle for this project is the AI. I'm not afraid of a little work, but Oh. My. God. How am I gonna recreate the AI for this game? I don't know, but I hope I persevere.

If you can post your .gmk, I would love to help with the graphics. And, If you're interested in some examples of GML, I can send you an engine for Zelda fangames that I compiled from several example engines that other people made. It's helped me immensely.

I'll take you up on your Zelda Engine offer and I'll give you the .gmk as soon as I, well, make it. I'd also like the following:

A Text Game
A Chess Game, or a game closest to it.
An RPG.

They'll help me out alot in understanding what I need to do for Tactics.

Ok. I don't have a text game, or a chess one. I have something that resembels an RPG, so I'll send what I have to you, and see how you like it.

Quote from: "Havermayer"There are a few good things from the FFTA series.

Nope, tactics if it had been designed for a 4 year old, and damnit, I'm not 4. I wanted some real tactics, I was much more impressed with WotL despite the fact it wasn't really a different game at least as far as the game-play and story evolution went.

I disagree Zuka FFTA is good for handheld games the only problem is the laws.

You know I posted my distaste for FFTA without having alowed myself the time to make it through the grueling intro sequence, which does lead one to believe the game is FAR too kiddy, having played it I like the mechanics a lot, and i even like the laws, but I think it's too geared towards ranged attacks, I mean, from what i can tell EVERY class has a long list of abilities that can be used from a long range to great effect, i mean, it's kinda what I've always wanted in that characters have abilities as effective as swordskills but at the same time i really didn't see enough balancing for this distance, it seems like monsters at least suffer very much at a range, except for maybe one or two abilities, I don't know, I'm still working on my playthrough but so far my opinion is that it's level of challenge, was really set for children... So far that is.

Of course if someone can make a game like that should also put a nice editor to make some single player campaing...i hoped square would put such a thing in "the war of the lions"...
Instead, they slowed the game...
Fucking square xD i hate-love them
P.s:FFTA is a shitty little copy of FFT...still a good game but nothing compared to FFt...and you cant recruit monsters! OMG xD
