New Project Ideas / Re: Red Wings Project

Thanks! Actually I have been working on not a sequel, but rather what happens to Cloud, I dunno how I started that but mainly I was trying to work with the custom poses (like Cloud grabbing his head in pain / Ramza doing jumping jacks when Mustadio gets KOed by Worker 8, etc).

Fixed FFT Aeris, the portrait was off. Now everything is fine.

... Gack.... Forgot to make my own. Oh well, too lazy and busy now.

Its not too late, you still have 2 days to make just one forward diagonal facing frame! C'mon guys! Don't give up!

Also a quick question, I entered quite a few sprites, will all of them be counted? They are all separate from each other so I assume the answer is yes, just checking though...

That's it! Thanks for finding it, see the tutorial itself isn't too bad, I could redo it and add pictures, then rerelease it.

You guys should read it, I don't see how its outdated or useless in any way...you can change characters with it easily enough even now.
25
Well Robrain, the colors of course are important, but more so is the base. If you're new to spriting, you should base your sprite off of an existing one, so for this character you will need something with coat, shirt and pants. Looks to me like he's wearing shoes. Try possibly Elmdor for his legs and shoes and maybe the male Mediator for the coat. Then change all the colors, and give him a head swap to something more befitting, like something from a Shrine Knight...good luck! Its probably better to try and make weird looking sprites and post them here, then people will give crits on how to improve it! Don't be embarrassed if it looks ridiculous, just post it!

Spam / Funny FFT Pics

Okay no rules, just post funny pics that are FFT related:

If you can only choose one of your entries, I'd like to choose this one then. Its Bartz from FF V, made from Mime for clothes, Olan's boots, Agrias arms (totally reworked) and custom hair:

I would've just given you the link to a tutorial I made called "New Creating Custom Characters Tutorial" but I think someone erased it for whatever reason. I remember that somehow step 7 of the tutorial got cut out, and then someone locked the thread so I could never just write the step back in. Oh well, I could rewrite a new tutorial with screenshots eventually, unless Celdia made one.

Edit: I found this from Celdia http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6702.0 but I feel its kinda incomplete. All it tells you is how to replace the UNIT.BIN and WLDFACE.BIN stuff, which is very helpful but doesn't explain enough to get a 100% new character in game (by renaming jobs, job description, skill sets & their description and renaming unused or useless names like "Dish"). Now while this for many might seem obvious, I can totally understand that for a new member they have no idea where to begin. Here is mine (which I cannot view "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.") http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=5868.0 but like said a step is missing. Did someone either block me from my own tutorial (I wrote the damn thing!) or delete it? I got tons of PMs of people thanking me that they could create new units in game... :(

Help! / Re: Sorta newbie, re-introducing myself...

Yes, it won't be reflected in FFTPatcher. You have to keep track of everything. And what do you mean blank job classes? Like there are unnamed special jobs, I don't think renaming them and assigning them a skillset will cause any problems. They will be special jobs, not generic, just letting you know. So if you change one of those and import a certain sprite, that's what the sprite will always remain as in game. I would advise against using the unnamed ones if you want them on the player's side, but for making more unique enemies that's fine.

QuoteAfter much thought during the past four years, I think I've mostly decided on what I want to use my G.I. Bill (military college scholarship) on as far as field of study - I'm pretty positive I want to go into the videogame industry as a career.

I work in the game industry, what field you trying for? I didn't have to spend any money studying anything and got a job as Quality Assurance which in a nutshell is game testing, which isn't playing video games for money but rather looking for bugs and writing in depth bug reports. If you want to be a coder, you don't necessarily have to go to college or uni, you just gotta sit there and teach it to yourself for years, that's what all the best coders have told me. To become a game designer you might have to go to some game academy, which may or may not be bullshit, so look carefully into any schools you find before investing money. In theory you don't have to if game design is your thing, just create tons of (google this stuff if you don't know what I'm talking about) high concepts and game play/level design documents of made up games. For each game you will need those three, all in great detail. Usually in these you don't have to create any new graphics, just use existing stuff from existing games that are similar to your idea. For level design you could simply use pen and paper to make levels or worlds or whatever and scan and upload them. You should probably make these documents simply with Google docs. That's my two cents on that.

Quote1) Create new job classes
2) Create custom ability lists / tweak those abilities.
3) Import sprites (I was just going to use the ones already publicly available here: http://ffhacktics.com/sprites.php - this wouldn't be for a public release, just a small quick personal project to get my feet wet so I know what I'm doing going forward)
4) Create new items (especially editing the name of the items / attributes / and defining the color palette of the item as shown on this chart: http://ffhacktics.com/items.php )

Doing all of the listed stuff is really easy. You could probably learn how to do this and get it down in under a week. Everything is here, just devote some time everyday to a certain thing and you should learn it quickly http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?board=43.0
If you want to create brand new events, it can be tricky at first but this tutorial by Elric is excellent, and thanks to it I pretty much learned to event edit some really simple stuff in as little as a few hours, trickier stuff could take months. http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=8229.0
You're gonna most likely wanna use the guy's "piece of art" who posted before me, Raven's EasyVent Editor Super Perfect v1.91, just click on that link in his signature. Its a lot more fun creating brand new events instead of just changing sprites, names and items. The EasyVent really makes the process so much easier and while reading Elric's stuff, it makes it possible for people like me who panic when looking at code. Hope all this rambling helps!

Wow Cheetah, that is an impressive Goku! Just one thing, could you make the spike below the biggest one a bit larger? It looks like diagonally left above his right eye the hair kinda just stops, right where the first bang starts. Really awesome, I like DB, make a whole sheet lol!
32
Well I don't like FF VIII anyways.

Here's Edge from FF IV (16 colors), its not a 1:1 version, but a FFT version of him:

33
The hair looks better on that one, but not so much the pants and boots, looks like a copy paste of Elmdor. Still, that is a really great base, I might use the hair...

I think you guys know who this is:

New Project Ideas / Re: Red Wings Project

Double post, whatever. Here is another possibility to start off the mod, bring Ramza into FF IV:

If not, this could be used as kinda like a sequel to FFT, the next events after Ramza and Alma escape. Yeah, crits and feedback? Sorry that its like 13 minutes, you can skip the cemetery since you guys know it. Skip to 2:03ish.

Can anyone tell me what the hell this is? It looks just like custom sprites and someone called "dragonrojodemetal" got excited about them and made a video, but did he make the animation sequence as well? What is this? Its 2 years old already so I'm guessing some of you saw this...

38
Yep, his name is Freedan, and you can only play as 3 characters in that game, Will and Shadow being the others. Very nice and looks just like a 1:1 version of a FFT Freedan! Cool sword too!

I found something that is incomplete but pretty easy to fill, the Sound commands. Many of them have ????? after them, but thanks to Elric's video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p64EZiyFQHk they should be easy enough to figure out. I can identify them if you want because I was looking into that anyways.

Another thing with the drop down bug, I found that if you have a command shown, doesn't matter which one, and then you click on the little down arrow and hold the click, the drop down will appear. If you move the mouse pointer outside of this field and let go, it won't make the error. Just thought this might be useful.

Edit: I don't know if this is where I'm supposed to post all this stuff, so forgive me if its wrong. I found out what the command {60}(r0000) does. If you change the (r0000) stuff to something like (r001E) for example it kills the music. This command changes what the music does. I obviously haven't tested all the commands yet but there's one, you can list "kills music" if you want, since killing the music is pretty important in events.

I'm guessing its something simple too, like extract x with CDMage and open it in TileMolester...or maybe something along those lines. If either of you see him, please ask him and could you also post the info here? Thanks!
