Corrected a rather glaring error with the formula 39 hack being inserted at the same place as the formula 44 hack, messing up the climhazzard formula. I feel like such a derp. :P

Corrected an error in RSM bundle, and uploaded the extended item attributes.

Gaignun, that hack wouldn't be difficult to make. That being said, I don't think oil will be TOO bad in 1.4 since we limited its sources, took it off of hawk's eye, etc. The only real way to get it reliably is via short edge, which received a proc chance nerf to 50%. We'll see how it fares.

About MP Poison:
I was oringinally the one to say that we might want it to balance out MP Regen. Then, I had a period of time where I regretted it profusely, but I was reassured that it would work out and that speculation only goes so far. I'm still a bit wonky on the idea.

It doesn't really balance out MP Regen like I thought it would due to the 0 CT and consequential 1/16 nerf. Also, we have a lot of ways to add MP Poison but only 4 ways to add MP Regen, and MP Regen is really the only way to remove it. I feel that overall the implementation was kind of careless, and that our hype for something new might have made us gravitate towards it in the first place. But we'll see what it's like once the patch comes out, and if it turns out to be a spectacular fail then we can take steps to fix it.

Here are the ASM's we're using for FFT Arena 1.40! For people making the patches, all you have to do is check all of the hacks and you're good. I tried to make it as simple as possible, so please let me know if there are any problems.

What's in the XML files:

Old Oil (actually current oil :P)
MP Regen/MP Poison
Wall reduces most forms of damage to 1 revert


Formula 05 becomes DmgMP_[Weapon]
Slow Dance repurposed to Break Dance
Formula 39 lowers PA and MA by 1
Formula 28 becomes Heal_(Y)% Hit_UnBrave(PA+X)% NE
Formula 14 becomes DmgMP_F(MA*Y)
Formula 44 becomes Dmg_(CasMaxMP)
Jump CT formula hack
Formula 63 becomes New Shuriken v2
Formula 57 becomes Gil Toss
Book Formula Changes to MA*WP
Tons Become Magic Evadable


Regenerator grants MP Regen and Regen
Sunken State gives Faith Status
Catch becomes New Caution
MP Switch Overflows to HP Damage
Equip X Supports
1/3 of MP
Train becomes Desperation - Updated to work for all weapons
Luck UP Support Hack
Brave Up gets MP Cost Trigger
Abandon ACTUALLY gives 50% evade bonus


Also included: MP Regen/MP Poison color edits, Extended Item Attributes.

UPDATE: Desperation is (theoretically) fixed to work with all weapons now. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Abandon Fixed to be 50% instead of 33%.

Attached free XML contains the old desperation just in case the other one doesn't work.

If it's going to be anytime soon, I wouldn't be able to participate on the 28th or 29th at all because of a family trip. Then, my summer classes begin on the 31st or something. Thus, the weekends would be the best days for me to discuss anything after that date. Around 6 PM CST (7 PM EST) works for me.

Ok guys, I know I fell asleep during the accessory discussion but I don't know about the mantle changes. I kind of liked the null: element effect as it was pretty unique and there aren't many items that have this. I guess we do need more water and wind absorb items right now, nobody was really utilizing their effects that much, and if you wanted absorb without evasion to apply you could use clothes instead, but...they were unique. I'm slightly less worried about small mantle because earth can be canceled with float and holy might be canceled by the new helm. If we put their effects on other things, I might be sold, but what else would we put it on? Other than that, I think the changes look fine. Defense ring loosing wind absorb is great and so is magic ring loosing earth.

Also, have we been considering half: element too in our changes? There's no half: holy/dark yet, though if the helm that gives cancel holy/dark gets introduced I don't think we'll need it. Just another thing to keep in mind as we go through the list and fine-tune things, I suppose.

I updated the link, it should be a permanant invite now. If it still wasn't working I don't really know but I can try to play around with it. When do you all want to start up discussion again? I'm free pretty much any day around the times we've been streaming, but if we can go at another time that would be fine.

This is one of the reasons I went along with the idea of an organized discussion, because as of right now there are just so many ideas that we still only really know that "X needs to be changed" or "Y needs to be nerfed", but no definite answer for how. If we could agree on definite changes or narrow them down to 1-2 ideas for each thing in question, that would make things much easier.

At this rate this thread might as well become a discussion about discussing how we want to discuss things. I was going to suggest talking about game mechanics changes first because that affects equipment and ability decisions, but if there are really not that many major class changes we can knock that out first I suppose.

I was also thinking that we could change things on the go and maybe someone (aka me unless anyone else knows how to actually hack) could post the updated FFTPatcher files and stuff. More work done now means less tedium later on, after all. I was combing through each of the abilities to find all the relevant skills for the current patch so we have an idea of what we are working with, and also a list of changed formulas.

In order to start discussing deeper things sooner and to have a solid foundation to build upon, I suggest we get these things out of the way first:

Speed altering skills: Should they be removed? A lot of our proposed changes revolve around this going away. I am all for it, but if anyone is strictly against it, now is the time to speak up.

MP Regen/Poison: Should we add them? The reason we need to get this out of the way is that they will affect the balance of skills and equipment.


Fury/Sadness statuses- Not feasable for 1.4, especially since none of us can code ASM too well and there are no hacks that already exist of this that I know of.

Innate: Transparent- I "don't see" the need to change this. As mentioned on the most recent stream, it is already balanced since you need to sacrifice power in order to get unevadable magic.
