PSX FFT Hacking / Monsters & Items
November 30, 2008, 04:12:33 pm
Does anyone know a good way to make it so some monsters can equip <Random> items? Is there any way to make them equip items are all?

PSX FFT Hacking / Goblin -> Ramza!?
November 30, 2008, 03:54:39 pm
... okay, what the fuck? My goblin has suddenly taken on the sprite of Ramza and I can't find any reason it'd do that! =(

I haven't changed the sprite at all, or the skills, or the action menu. The only thing I did was change it's stat growths and innates. Help please!

The Lounge / D&D Knowledge

Does anyone have a decent amount of D&D knowledge and have a little free time to spare? If not, it's cool, no big deal really.

PSX FFT Hacking / CT (clockticks) & Speed
November 26, 2008, 07:20:18 pm
I was looking at the Battle Mechanics guide and saw that the speed of the unit modifies how fast the CT bar fills up.

My main question is when is CT counted for? In between turns or at some other point in time? Trying to figure out when someone's ability will go off in relation to another unit, with preferably, an equation of some kind.

Like for example, a unit with 8 speed throws out a CT: 2 spell, when will it go off compared to everyone else?

Hacking/Patching Tools / Two Formula Problems
November 25, 2008, 07:06:40 pm

Okay, this one (Painful Cry) fires off pretty much perfectly until it affects the enemies. While the graphic fires off, it doesn't do any damage what-so-ever. I'm a bit confused on this and why it does it.

Bolt Charge actually has the same problem, it does absolutely 000 damage, but it hits and fires off just fine.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Both of these are in known glitch-free skillsets (Sing & Talk Skill), though I've changed both to <Monster> in the action menu. I've done this with basic skill, battle skill, etc. and they all work just fine.

Any ideas?

Okay, so Lasting_Dawn pointed me towards HyperCam which will work great for what I want to do ... my only question in the regard is, is there any easy way to put music over the entire video? I'll be pausing a skipping around some, so just running it in the background won't do me much good.

PSX FFT Hacking / Abyssal Blade & it's range
November 16, 2008, 01:53:54 pm
Does anyone know what makes Abyssal Blade use that cone-shaped targeting effect? I can't figure it out ... I'm almost guessing it's somewhere in the formula, instead of any of the boxes you can check for how it works. I've attempted to make Wish work the same way, but it ends up as a normal linear attack.

PSX FFT Hacking / Suggestion
November 11, 2008, 04:31:12 pm
Well, we can change the Materia Blade to another item (ASM hacking), so you need [Said Item] to use limits or whatever ... but I wanted to change it to all bows. =/ I'm not sure what to do.

PSX FFT Hacking / Demi & Demi 2

Another question one might add is, would it be used more often if it was given straight-forward damage like the wizard spells?

Old Project Ideas / Final Fantasy Tactics: Resolution
November 04, 2008, 07:50:13 pm
Alma
"At first, we did what little we could while staying hidden. My brother was content away from prying eyes and living peacefully. Truly, we thought it had all come to it's end, but in reality we would soon discover it to be but a child's dream ... the true war, had yet to finish."

Goals: To provide a sequel to the original storyline, in hopes to provide answers to what happened to characters in the original, explain the stone's origins, Ramza's bloodline, and to create more in-depth character relationships.

Spriting / Portraits in UNIT.BIN
November 01, 2008, 09:06:49 pm
I've searched the forums and couldn't find this out. I replaced Dancers/Bards with Ninjas, however the portrait is staying as a Dancer/Bard. Is there any way to change this?

Hacking/Patching Tools / In Battle Text
November 01, 2008, 03:15:26 pm
Anywhere know where this is located? As in, you can edit WORLD.BIN to display Paladin instead of Holy Knight, but you go into battle formation or in battle and it changes back to Holy Knight. I changed this once, it seems ... but I can't find it again. :( It's not even in BATTLE.BIN because I searched in mine with Windhex and found that everything was corrected.

This is preventing me from correcting some names and editing the ability names all together.

PSX FFT Hacking / Forth Skeleton Sprite?
October 19, 2008, 11:58:01 pm
So, I was looking through the sprites and looked up the skeleton ... I noticed while crycling through the sprites, there's a forth palette, picturing a darker version of the normal skeleton. Is there any way to tie this palette to one of the skeletons? I figured this was the best place to ask. Thanks.

PSX FFT Hacking / Miscellaneous Tricks & Tips
May 28, 2008, 05:39:55 pm
Tricks of the Trade!
System: All
By Lydyn

Making Status Effect Permanent (Credits: Lasting_Dawn)
• Open FFT Patcher.
• Go to the Status Effects tab.
• Set any Status effect you want as permanent to CT: 00

Adding more than three skills to a Monster (Credits: Asmo_X)
• Open FFT Patcher.
• Go to an unused skillset (4D-66 is a good example).
• Add Whatever skills you want.
• Go to the monster you want to have those skills and set his skillset as the one you edited.
Note: The AI will use them perfectly.
• Also; "The monster one isn't perfect. The monster will also have access to the job wheel (and a level 0 chemist) which is laden with glitches. I think that setting the chemist requirement to lvl 1 or 2 squire will stop you from being able to change jobs but still. Kind of sucks. You can also adjust the items/RSM of the monster when they are in your party which is very non-monster."

Forcing custom skillsets and having enemies know all of the Skills (Credits: Voldemort7, Lasting_Dawn, & Zodiac)
• Open FFT Patcher.
• Go to the ENTD tab.
• Choose any battle and any enemy unit.
• Select the Primary Skillset and give them a skillset besides a generic unit's skillset (like 0A: White Magic).
• Ta-da! Now when in battle, that unit will know all the skills from the skillset choosen.
Note: A2: White Magic is not counted as a Generic skillset, so if you force any of those custom skillsets, the enemy with automatically know all the skills.
Note: This works for secondary as well.
Note: A1 doesn't work, however, but it's the only reported one not to work.

Making All-Ultima and related skills used more Often (Credits: Voldemort7)
• Open FFT Patcher.
• Go to the ability in question.
• See if "Random Hits" is checked.
• If so, uncheck it.
Note: Random Hits tells the AI that it may or may not hit the enemy, so it's used less often. On skills like All-Ultima, if unchecked, Altima will use it every time she can.

Make Transparent useful for Enemies (Credits: Lasting_Dawn) Warning: Doesn't work at the moment, sorry!
• Open FFT Patcher.
• Go to Transparent in the Status Effects tab.
• Check the "Ignore Attacks" box.

Non Breeding monster that can be given any (non-monster skillset) (Credits: Zozma)

Use one of the undead jobs; undead knight, undead oracle, undead summoner, undead archer, undead time mage, undead black mage.

They are all sealed jobs just like worker 8 or ultima demons, and if you set the right monster portrait and palette to the job then you have a glitch free monster in the menu as well.

Any given skills will use mp.

Limiting what monsters (with a monster skillset) can use based roughly on their level (Credits: Zozma)

Monsters will always have every skill learned. and no matter how much mp the skill cost they never consume mp, but they cannot use skills until they have enough max mp to match the spell's mp cost.

Example: If Fire 2 costs 12 mp to use and you give it to a goblin as part of its skillset, but the gobln only has like 10 mp, he won't be able to use it until he levels up some more, BUT, he will from that point on be able to cast it any time he wants. So monsters could actually get much more powerful other than just stats.

Step-up & Finisher Skills (Credits: Skip Sandwich & Vanya)

There are currently three known formulas that require that you either be able to inflict or cancel a status in order to function, these are Formula 0E (Death), Formula 35 (Revive) and Formula 0D (Raise, Raise 2). When you set any of these skills to inflict a status, the skill will automatically fail if the target is immune to that status, and will behave normally when the target is not immune.
When you set any of these skills to cancel a status, however, the skill will automatically fail unless the target possesses that status.

Example skills, all of which have been personally tested by me and work 100% as described.
Prime: adds Oil status to a target
+
Detonate: if the target has the oil status, detonate them, causing 100% max hp damage.

OR

Sleep: adds sleep to targets in area
+
Taipir: Summoned dream sprite causes sleeping allies to awaken fully healed.

OR

Dangerous Drug: fully heals target, but inflicts random negative status.

OR

Insulting Cut: carve your initials into your opponent, deals minisule damage (1% of max hp), but engrages opponent when it hits (adds berserk)

it should be noted that Formula's 35 and 0D also inflict status at 100% (when they hit), even though it does not say so in the patcher, and also that Formula 0E (Death), is hardcoded as healing undead and will not accept elemental flags, it will also always work against undead targets, regardless of what other statuses are set, if if the undead unit is immune to the status that you set Formula 0E to inflict.

Making Status end On Hit (Credits: BeoulveBlack & TheDamned) Warning: Doesn't work on "Wall," "Transparent," or "Dark/Evil Looking."!

"Checking FFTPatcher right (since I've had it constantly open for like three days; my poor computers) now shows me that the box BB is talking about is the fourth one below "Freeze CT" or, rather, the fifth box in the first column. I checked this against Sleep and Charm and both of those statuses also have the same mark, so that has to be it."

Using glitched classes successfully (Credits: Lasting_Dawn (for testing) )

There is a known problem is changing Item, Throw, Draw Out, Jump, & Geomancy can results in glitches. Changing the skills results in weapon ranged 00% hitting abilities, and changing the skillset results in the learned abilities being based off of the base (squire) learned skills.

However it's been tested by Lasting_Dawn (and I hear SentialBlade as well) that unique characters that are tied to unique base classes (such as Holy Knight, Hell Knight, etc.) are free from this glitch. This is mostly news for any patches that may exclude generics in the future (when one is able to remove the Solider Office), since then they have free reign  to change their classes as they see fit.

Making skills fire twice if you have Two Swords (Credits: Voldemort7)

It's actually quite simple. Just make sure the "Ranged Weapon" box is checked and the skill will fire twice if you have two swords. However, like anything, there's limitations. The targeting will be entirely dependant upon the first equipped weapon (meaning you cannot do area effects or linear attack, etc.), but otherwise it takes the damage, elements (I assume), CT & MP costs from the skill itself.

Making Flails & Axes not use the random formula (Credits: Lydyn)

This is a minor work-around. If you simply change the item type of Flails & Axes, it'll use whatever base formula for the item type (normal for swords, Brave for Katanas, etc.) however the graphic will need to be corrected otherwise it looks glitched.

If there's a trick not listed here, just post it and I'll add it with credits. ^^

PSX FFT Hacking / Ramza's set JP
May 25, 2008, 12:04:09 pm
As I posted in another topic, it seems Ramza has a set-in amount of JP he gets for each class (seeming to be around 100-200). So if you set.. say, the level 8 requirement to something like 100 JP, Ramza will automatically unlock all 8 levels, but if you set level one to about 250+, he won't even have one level in the class, but instead zero (0).

Personally, I wish we knew how to change it, because generic units will always have level one or two of a class (depending on how high the JP requirements are) no matter what.
51
PSX FFT Hacking / Palettes & Joining
May 23, 2008, 07:54:00 pm
Event 188, where all your units are at the military school at the beginning ... they're all marked as 'Join after Event.' So I wanted to change their palettes some and such and it works perfectly in the actual cut-scene, but once they join and your setting up to battle and actually go into battle ... their palettes revert back to #1.

Does anyone know a way around this or anything? It'd be nice to have different colored classes on your side.

PSX FFT Hacking / New Guest not Working
May 09, 2008, 02:16:04 am
So I edit the Grog Hill battle in preperation of Lightning entering my patch as a new character. Well, I put her on 0 X, 0 Y and give her all the stuff and a palette of 1 and a Unit ID of 7F (also tried it with 8).

However, when I enter battle, suddenly my Samurai has a Calculator Portrait tied to a different palette (the red one) and his sprite is practically missing (you either see a grey box or colored lines).

Anyone have any clue why this is happening?

Hacking/Patching Tools / Patching ISOs
May 08, 2008, 01:22:45 am
All right, Cheeta suggested I do this. Does anyone know an easier way to patch the FFT ISO than downloading FFT Patcher, CD Mage, extracting the SCUS and BATTLE.BIN files, patching them, downloading the sprites, downloading the UNIT.BIN files, and importing them all back in?

Seems like a huge hassle for any beta testers that don't have a clue what all this is about.

Hacking/Patching Tools / Reflect
May 06, 2008, 06:10:33 pm
There are two Reflects, actually ... one is the spell and there's another one in the Reactions section of the patcher. Does anyone know what or if it does anything? I'm still testing right now, but .. it's failed to launch. I suppose it could be a result of 55 Brave... anyways, I had assumed it would just add reflect to your character.

I'm going to switch MP Switch for Reflect if it actually works.

PSX FFT Hacking / Poll: Heavenly Chaos
May 06, 2008, 05:35:42 pm
Well, you have the poll question there. Mostly this is to see if I should try posting this other places or seeing if I should get votes for my own forum section so things are less culttered. Right now, it's sort of a mess to flip through all the pages and stuff, but it's not a big deal if no one really plays with it ...

Now I know I suppose v0.13's higher levels might turn people away from using it lately (had anyone been playing it), but I'm strongly considering adding innate Gained EXP-UP. The point of all that was so that the player isn't some 33 levels above the boss at the end (Altima's only level 66).

Anyways, whatever you choose, I'll greatly welcome the feedback, thanks. ^^

PSX FFT Hacking / Lydyn's Collection of Guides
April 26, 2008, 01:58:46 pm
Please Read first!

Welcome! ^_^ I'm posting this topic to display all the guides I'm writing for the moment so not only does it not cultter the forums with various guide topics, but it's also organized. I'll be putting a headline or name at the start of each new reply to let you know which guide it is.

Please don't reply to this topic directly, but instead if you have a question or comment, reply to the "Guides" topic found here in the General FFT forum, so that this stays clean and easy to read or send me a PM, whichever works for you. Thanks!
