Hate to be pestimestic here, but I don't really see this going to completion (any time soon if ever). But hey, if this worked, I'd play it for sure (gotta be free though...).

Ok I am so glad I found this site. It has been my dream since playing FFT on the playstation to create an online multiplayer experience using the FFT as a starting point.... there are 2 ways to go about it obviously
1)propose to square to make it like WOW except with parties of 5 lke in the game(super un likely)

or

2)using patches to alter the game and make it online.....

someone said this would require someone with freetime and programming skillz...well i have one of those.... I can learn to be a programmer and would work for free, and make the patch free

here are my questions....
1)is it possible to use the iso from an emulator and connect to other computers?
2)through this site can i learn to modify anything and everything ?
3)is there someone here on this site who would except money to make this game for me/the FFT community?
3)

1) That's where the time & skillz come in. You'd basically have to ASM hack the game to get online play & most likely also have to program a special emulator to run it. This is why it might be easier to just program it from scratch or in a game making IDE that has online capability.

2) You can learn some things here, but the scope of what you have to learn isn't fully covered here. You'll need to learn ASM programming, ASM hacking (yes there is a difference), and you'd need to learn at least one other programming language.

3) Seriously doubt it.

In addition to what Vanya mentioned, don't hope that anyone will do this project for you...let alone do it for money, as that could potentially lead to some serious problems down the line. What you're looking into is very ambitious and will undoubtedly require some hefty skills, most of which you won't find here.

QuoteThe battle system could be over-hauled too. Remove the grid based maps for instance, and instead have movement/attacks, etc be based on spheres.

Anyone know exactly what spheres means in this case, would it be like The Last Remnant for example??

Okay, sorry to revive a long dead topic probably by now but: if someone could figure out how to change the largest icon for a unit (probably the Iron Giant or Hydra, I dont mean Ajora) into 32x32 pixels without messing up the graphics quality too much and then changing all other graphics to the same aspect ratio, so in other words change everything to a smaller scale, a friend of mine and I could program an online FFT game. Only one problem, I don't have too much free time and I think it would take forever. And I dont know if the coder has time/is willing to do this. My friend and I could make a very simple version of FFT, for example: a map and a bunch of units to choose from and the same elements of FFT that we all love. And it would be online.

Ah, sweet memories.

I don't think Gamemaker would be able to make the 3d graphics needed for FFT. So instead I found a new game engine: Blender. It supports 3d alright, but I have no idea how to create 2d graphics with it. I could probably just ask their forums how.

Anyways, I won't be able to really work on this for a long while, due to me being busy with stuff IRL. I'll definately start working on this when I get settled down. I warn you guys though, this maybe an empty promise for quite a while.

Quote from: "MiKeMiTchi"What program will you and your friend use?

We will probably use Byond, if we have the time that is. It is a program that has the multi-massive online player funtionality. It supports only up to SNES graphics, but FFT is more or less a SNES game on PSX, what I mean is that it doesn't have 3d polygons and that it can be easily manipulated in Photoshop, which I will use because I am the iconer. My friend is the programmer.

This would be amazing! It definitely beats FFTRealm, which is text + turnbased with very loose interpretations on classes and skills...
