WOTL modding questions, sprites & text, ect.
« on: April 09, 2013, 04:28:12 PM »
First of all I'm in the middle of modding WOTL. Shishi sprite editor only seems to change inbattle sprites. To change up prebattle and formation sprites, (which I have the program to do) I can't seem to find the BIN files needed to make those changes. I'm assuming I need some kind of decompiler?

Text editor gives me an error message on BOOT.BIN5, something about a DTE.

Will I need a hexeditor?
Can I add a job class to be playable?
Can I add more unique characters? (ex. orlandeu or cloud)

mm. So many questions. My long term goal is to make my own patch, like a modified storyline. More challenging battles. ect.

For WoTL sprite modding of the above try

 http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6702.0

a couple of posts down and it shows how to import world.bin and unit.bin for the ps  p
In relation to making a job class playable you just need to tinkerwith the Patcher

As a final note, have a look in Tutorial and Learning for some extra tips.
As a another final note, try getting rid of the Kanji text when using FFTtactext and this might help you with your BOOT.BIN problem

All of the best!

    Kanji:
    A system of Japanese writing using Chinese characters.

    Simply put, anything that looks like chinese writing that you can't understand, simply delete it!

    I'm not seeing anything japanese anywhere in here.. not in BOOTBIN 5, or anywhere else.
    This is maddening.
    This is a copy of BOOTBIN5... Maybe you see something wrong that I don't?

    I've tried everything. This program just doesn't seem to work at all.
    I did read somewhere in the other thread that a specific version was the only one that worked, and only on an unmodded ISO.  I'll see if that works.  Are there no alternative programs?

    Hello,

    Open up your file and go to the OPEN.LZW, part 26, Composers notes and get rid of all of the Kanji text and see how that goes.

    Also can you do me favour and upload your file and I will have a look at it as well.

    Cheers Argy

    Removed composer's notes.  Still no go.  It always hangs up in bootbin 5 for some weird reason. I don't see any foreign characters in it.
    here's the file though.

    excellent. i will have a look at it tonight or tomorrow morning. cheers

    Had a look at it and I am getting the same error as well.

    Can you tell me which Patcher suite you are using? As this might be an issue... though I am unsure.

    Did you rip a 'clean' iso? As I have gone through different TactTexts and I am getting the same problem as well

    Just to let you know, i am currently using .482

    I have also uploaded a clean FFTactext as well.

    Let me know how it goes

    Cheers Argy

    I think I'm using .482.V2. at least that's the name on the .RAR...

    Secondary question, into sprite modding (from the link posted above)  I try to open/extract "fftpack.bin" (with cd mage) the computer tries to open notepad and just hangs there. I even tried to extract it to another folder, but it just made a copy of fftpack.bin.. Am I not using the right program to disect FFTPACK?  I'm thinking I might need UMDgen, but someone there said you can use cdmage even on WotL.

    Hiya,

    I take it you are doing this

    I know this is a dead issue by now, but you can use CDMage to mess with WotL. All you have to do is:

    1 - Open the PSP iso as M1/2048 track .iso;
    2 - Go to Track 1/PSP_GAME/USRDIR and extract "fftpack.bin";
    3 - As an extra step, launch a FFTPatcher (I'm using version .478), go to PSP=>Utilities=>Extract fftpack.bin..., and extract into an empty folder;
    4 - Navigate to that folder and find your UNIT.BIN and WLDFACE.BIN (it's at the same place it would be in the PSX .iso as shown by Celdia, i.e.: <folder>/EVENT);
    4 - Do stuff as Celdia said;
    5 - When you have the resulting UNIT.BIN, WLDFACE.BIN and WLDFACE4.BIN, launch the FFTPacher again and go to PSP=>Utilities=>Rebuild fftpack.bin... and select your folder;
    6 - Finally, just import the resulting fftpack.bin into the .iso, using CDMage.

    Cheers Argy

    PS. It shouldnt be tryign to open notepad :-(

    That's what I was doing. Do I have to use UMDgen or am I just doing one of the steps wrong?

    I think the WoTL modding gods are against you :-(

    Alright, SO I fiddled with it for a while and finally got it. What I was trying to do earlier was breakdown the fftpack with CDmage. (I think learning several new programs at the same time was a bit much for me.) Anyway, I used the patcher to decompile the fftpack. From there, I used FFTEVGRP. Did sprite mods as Celdia instructed, and everything went rather smoothly.

    Figuring things out the first time is roughest, but I got it.  :D
    A few more to do, and to work out the text editing problem, and I'll be golden!

    I never thanked you for your help so far though. Thanks! I appreciate support when I have questions.
