Title: Testers
Post by: Zozma on September 06, 2009, 09:04:29 PM
I need one or two people willing to test my monsters and battles up untill chapter 2.

one person focused on monster developement: someone that can make some good suggestions on balancing each of the available monsters.

and the other focused on battle difficulty.

I need these mechanics fine tuned so that i can focus on implimenting the actual events. Just be aware that your not really getting a sneak peak at the story as so much as you are seeing a few gutted events.
--------------
future updates from testing:

Orbonne Monestary - Lavian will have Non-Charge just for show as her ai apparently hits as many buddies as she does enemies with her fire spell.

Dorter 1 - Add 2 more archers and another black mage

Rat Cellar - Corrected Delita's skillset, hes NOT supposed to have Ultima lol

I can do battle difficulty.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 06, 2009, 09:14:58 PM
good, your 1 of 2 then.

and since you're femiliar with my patch youd be able to give me ideas for story input as well.

So what you're trying to do is help me make the battles as hard as possible. but i need you to test it as someone without any gameshark or any other kinds of shortcuts.

Post by: DarthPaul on September 06, 2009, 09:15:51 PM
Sure can do.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 06, 2009, 09:24:09 PM
Here is what im trying to do DP, that requires your input

I want enemies to be so difficult (if possible) that you are almost willing to keep going if one of your specials crystalize. Including randoms.

It is nowhere near that point right now and as far as what the enemies have available? well it still needs to become progressively harder as the game moves forward so they arent going to just be able to start with things like "counter" "blade grasp" "hamedo" etc so primarily all i have to work with is their numbers, jobs, and levels. Equips are going to be generated based on their levels.

Post by: DarthPaul on September 06, 2009, 09:36:18 PM
Alright, so you want to go near 1.3 difficulty but to stay away from the threshold of it. Am I not right?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 06, 2009, 09:41:38 PM
something like that. I definately want to try to help enemies get the upper hand whenever possible.
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on September 06, 2009, 09:46:44 PM
It did always bug me that elite soldiers could be thoroughly upset by a heretic and some cadets.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 06, 2009, 09:54:49 PM
Im counting on you.

Pick each battle apart. Im currently debating weather or not to allow monster recruitment at all right now as well... im just not sure

Overanalyzing things into oblivion is what I do best.

Hint: The biggest mass murderer in Star Wars is the guy who fired the Deathstar's cannon at Alderon.

good, when i put out a demo up to chapte2 end i wan't it to be well worth the long wait.

It shall be.

Title:

but you cant?
Title:
Post by: Kagebunji on September 07, 2009, 03:58:27 PM
I can, maybe those 50 times of beating vanilla will finally be usefull. If I find battles easy, I will tell. Deal?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 07, 2009, 08:41:43 PM
sure why not ;), ill have to wait till i get my internet back up, sunday or monday, at home before i can send you guys patches.
it will definately start out easier than 1.3, thats why i need them tested and then get feedback
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 11, 2009, 02:06:21 PM
So Kage and DP im just waiting on my ISP to come back up on Sunday and im also making some additions to those battles up till chapter 2 end.

Certain areas as of yet are a bit neglected but with your help testing things should evolve pretty well. And as i've mentioned before, just dont expect many things to make sense as you will see special guest/ enemy characters without any explaination as to why they are there. Events take a long time to create so most of that isn't worked out yet.

Monsters are a bit screwy right now since i used an asm hack that disables the fixed color palettes. so if you see monsters with the wrong palette let me know so i can set it right in ENTD
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on September 11, 2009, 02:28:10 PM
Alright, ready for the patch when it hits the shelves errr I mean our inboxes.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 11, 2009, 02:51:21 PM
np, just remember that you have to apply the "expanded iso" patch to a vanilla rom first and then apply this afterwards
Title:
Post by: Kagebunji on September 11, 2009, 04:15:07 PM
I'm waiting. It is simple procedure to patch clean ISO, yes? Just like you do with 1.3?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 11, 2009, 04:20:57 PM
yeah, you just have to expand the iso with the first patch, and then patch mine

I can fix that kind of stuff pretty easily. maily it's a copy/paste in excel and set the palette to their original value based on the job.
Seem a bit complicated but it's extremely easy for someone like me.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 11, 2009, 05:23:36 PM
cool, its nice to have control of a monster's color palette with ENTD but if the palette is set to 0 its nice for them to take the one that matches their job/tier

Um... that would require modifying the asm hack and would create the restriction that you would be unable to use for instance a dark behemoth with the normal behemoth's sprite.

My plan is "manually" set all the corresponding palettes with excel and then if you create a new battle or something else you'll have to manually set them too.

If you still want just send me your fftpatch.

Else you can just use the special units/generics version of the hack if you're not planning to give any monster a special palette.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 12, 2009, 07:33:32 PM
ill have to think about it, i havent applied that long part of the asm to the battle.bin because of that crash i menioned earlier.  hopefully tho ill have the internet back up at home tonight when i get off work

and yes Mike, that is it.  thanks for linking it
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 13, 2009, 11:25:48 AM
damn AT&T they pushed back my activation day till tomorrow. thats some bullshit! (im writing this from work so i dont have my files)

i cant send it till tomorrow sorry testers...

and Arvine you are not too late, my patch will be a hot mess when you play as a tester but you're welcome to do it as well.
Title:
Post by: Kagebunji on September 13, 2009, 05:13:13 PM
Remember that I have school on my head, so I can't report everything regulary, I will play when I will be able to. Btw, will we be able to recruit someone?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 13, 2009, 06:16:46 PM
huh, u mean any of the special units? or like monsters and humans etc?

generic humans can only be hired at the soldier office
monsters currently cannot be recruited except for Boco

for special units you get Boco, Mustadio, and Lavian before chapter 2 ends which is the end of the patchwork so far
Title:
Post by: Kagebunji on September 13, 2009, 06:42:21 PM
I'm happy to know that someone joins. Soldier office is the same, or can we hire some new units?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 13, 2009, 06:44:55 PM
its the same,

you, however, get more special units join up by the end of the game than you have space for so either way you have to boot some characters. Its a shame i couldnt get it expanded to 20 to fit everyone but thats just the way it is.
Title:
Post by: Kagebunji on September 13, 2009, 06:48:53 PM
I think it's good, it forces you too beat game at least twice.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 13, 2009, 06:53:45 PM
I think you'll enjoy the selection, alltho they are all human except boco so far
Title:
Post by: DarthPaul on September 13, 2009, 08:09:09 PM
I was working on expanding the amount of units available before my last computer died. I did some comparison and copy pastes between PSX and PSP and had a semi feasible setup though the background was severely messed up and it had a tendency to crash.

If I can remember what I did I'll redo it and post a PPF for you guys to play around with.
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 14, 2009, 11:34:22 AM
maybe its a good thing... having to boot some lol

btw im STILL waiting for fucking ATT to activate my internet. i donno whats with isp's and bad service
Title:

Ok here are two bugs:

Difficulty of Gariland was quite high, I had to lure one by one enemies to win, Orbonne was easy though, maybe boost power of enemies, or give them some good support skills, like Defense UP or Attack UP?

Btw, great music for world map ;)
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 16, 2009, 07:37:35 PM
your having a text issue? how is your emulator set up? or is he actually using Dark Sword there? that would be odd

also thx for pointing out the palette issue i missed one. I recently applied an asm hack that allows special units to have multi palette use just like generics do so thats all that is.

thats Odd with the text for the bio spells too, i patched an extended vanilla, and everything seems to be working fine..... yours did have any other patches applied right?
Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 17, 2009, 08:14:50 PM
okay, i need a third to test for the same things. someone that has their emulator set up specifically for FFT is preferable

also it appears your original version should be this size 541,315,152.

according to melonhead. but thats probably what creates the errors is a size difference

If its not, please let me know what yours is..

Edit
Okay testers, check your boxes again

Title:
Post by: Zozma on September 27, 2009, 04:18:20 AM
nah of course not.

its a bit of a mess. I now have a plan in motion at least for chapter 1 to have all the enemy units in event battles have set equipments.

im working on that now. i suppose i can create an update thusfar.

it seems that mages get themselves in a bit of trouble if you're playing the game on low levels.

well pm me and ill send u a patch

If not I resume testing after Halloween. Tonberry costume for the win.

lol Darth. Still testing BTW. So far, monsters are just epic. We gotta work on them. Like the Bull Demon. Damn Blow Fire hits hard.

AI needs some work. I wish you let Bosses have random strong gear. Im ast level 80+ and at Fort Zeakden, Damn Vicks had like crappy gear except his Accessory which was a Feather Mantle
