I can't properly review this right now (I have a murderous headache), but I just wanted to say that everyone so far more or less started at your level (well except for me, but I'm also the one who discovered and documented 98% of event instructions) and that any feedback we give you is essentially just meant to make you more aware of what you can do to make your events more engaging. So far everyone who has kept at it wanting to improve are now making amazingly-looking events, so hopefully that's what you strive for too!

So even if the criticism feels overwhelming, I highly encourage you to listen to our opinions and re-record the changes so we can review again, until the event is more or less perfect. Both Elric and Nyzer learned very fast this way.

We need to make one thing clear: Which version are you modding?

Because:
- You say PSP
- Your profile says PSX
- You create topics both in the PSX (even today) and WotL sections
- You try to use a lot of tools that are only meant for the PSX version

Not to mention that this tutorial is pretty useless now since you can just use Shishi to directly edit the UNIT.BIN and WLDFACE.BIN files. This should be possible for WotL as well... though I forgot if someone managed to change the links between spritesheets and UNIT.BIN or not for WotL. Safest bet is to use a spritesheet that is linked to an unused UNIT.BIN slot (like one of the few unused priests) and use that spritesheet slot for your unit. Though I have to say I can't recall which spritesheets are associated to those, sorry.

If you want more of a "Make my own game" tutorial, you could write it yourself as you learn so that those in the future who are just like you wishing there was such a thing have access to it.

And I'm not very familiar with WotL, I heard changing the skillset of generic jobs on that version wasn't an issue. Maybe I was misinformed.

For the PSX version, you can't change the skillset ID of a generic job. You have to edit the skillset they already have. Otherwise the game tries to read 'learnt ability' flags based on Job JP amounts and such; i.e. memory overflow.

Yeah, I think you jumped to conclusions because:
A) There is no reason to believe the hack or the tool caused this
B) There is no reason to believe other tools could "lessen" the effect
C) ePSXe is a pretty bad emulator with easily the worst audio emulation available out of the major emulators out there

Yeah, Ultima would need 3 parameters:
- Caster coordinates (used for a few 'throw' effects like lifebreak, IIRC)
- Main Effect coordinates
- Hit Effect target ID

As you can't define the main effect coordinates (defaults to X = 0 & Y = 0), or even set multiple targets, this definitely limits the list of effects we can use, unfortunately.

I wonder how hard it would be to make a hack to allow defining those coordinates

Even though there's a lack of proper analog support on PC, I only play the PC version now because of laziness, mods and no jitter.

I tried making this hack on PC (as well making the cap 255 instead of 100), but ultimately failed... and this would have been very easy and fast for me to make these hacks on PSX, but... yeah, I don't play the PSX version anymore. :v

It's still nice for people who still play the PSX version though.

1. It's necessary for savestate event editing so the text offset always remains the same (otherwise if you add/remove an instruction, the text will be compiled right after the event, and thus will move). You normally need to make sure you're giving this a high enough number so that you have enough space to add a bunch of instructions, but not too high that it break the event space limit, which is 0x2000. 0x1800 is a good number for this. However you don't need to do any of this if you use the newest Event Instruction Upgrade hack.

2. Use the camera instruction helper to properly center the camera where the effect will play so it doesn't go back and forth when playing an Effect.

Alright, here's the deal. We've literally never had anyone apologize in advance for breaking rules (you're far from the first one), and seen them break any rules. Ever. Many people who do break the rules are aware that they commonly do so in general, and can get extremely aggressive when being called out on it. Some things are just a lack of decency as human beings toward others, and they will hate being called out on those as well. They will defend their positions to the point of resorting to personal attacks. i.e. People who are the most concerned about breaking rules never do. I mean, it's obvious that you are a very good and mindul person, but there's no need to be so apologetic, you can make people far happier by focusing on what you can do to help them, rather than how to avoid hurting them!

It might suck to hear, but your sprite right now kinda looks like a smurf. Far too much blue. It might be hard to give the hair its own palette of colour, but it would help tremendously make the sprite appealing to the eye. But hey, you've actually created something; that's more than what 99% of people do around these parts.

If you don't mind taking many hours to edit the dozens of instances where he would look glitched in event as a result, sure. Or leave them as is—they don't hurt. They'll just make the story rather ugly to look at at times.

Save yourself some trouble and use Shishi to change the formation sprite/portrait instead of that Japanese translated program requiring you to use CDMage or whatever to import the files. Shishi just does it for you.

And if you're going to switch palettes that way, make sure "Match Pixels with Colors" isn't checked

What was the reasoning behind using Font size 1 when you're trying to get help? To me it makes about as much sense as trying to cut a steak with a spoon. Were you playing around, didn't realize your mistake, or realized it but didn't realize there was an edit button, or you did and figured people could just zoom in? I don't understand...

Can't you just use GifCam with Shishi? Works perfectly fine for me. Just overrecord a bit to get the proper frame delay for each frame.

Shishi allows you to view each individual animation frame manually if you click "Pause".

I have to agree, it sounds like you're using FFTPatcher in Wine or something through Linux.

If that's not the case... then definitely a problem I've never heard of before and I would try re-downloading the thing.
