I'll post here my findings.
Maybe someone will help me.
I compare E106.BIN and E107.BIN
First difference found was:
at 0x28C
E106:34 04
E107:23 03

Changing 23 03 to 34 04 at E107 made it look completely like E106(but sounds differently).
Look at E106.BMP and E107.BMP.
Absolutely similar.
So,i guess, this two bytes set palette to colorless effect from some table of palettes?

I'll continue to post here if i'll find something.

Edit 1:So,at least in Steal hELMET,steal armor, steal shield effect files two bytes at 28C and 28D is bytes determining the palette. It would be nicer if i can find out where this bytes stored at other files...something like ImageSize-0xSomething...

Edit 2:Okay,about the sound. it turned out bad, looks like bytes corresponding for sound is spread all along the file.
So,changing bytes at 26EB,26ED,26F8 and 2706 made steal armor sound like steal helmet.

I'm afraid that effect file contain sound file as well...But i don't think it's like that-then file should be too large.

Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

I don't know if edited certain colors in palettes,or just palette index, but if we can understand, where this byte should be stored...
Like, see,Night Sword also discolored. So,by finding and changing the byte we can easily make Blue Night Sword.
Also, does there exist two different effects but with same sound?

DrBreen, I don't know how much of the forum you've scouted out on effect editing but this post here

http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=116.msg16390#msg16390

is a nicecompliation of data that has been posted in various other threads about the assignment of data in the effect files. It will help you identify a large portion of each effect file, namely the graphics and the palette for those graphics. To the best of my knowledge, that would leave the first section of the .BIN files as the routines for the graphics. Good luck with your edits.

Oh,thanks. I saw that, but now it would definetely help me.
I'm not sure i would be able to do very much-but i continue examining those files as i have free time.

did you post a link for the discovery that R999 had managed to make for easy effect edits as well? its in the archives under the cancelled IA project section. its really good info too
