Axes, flails, and bags

I stumbled upon this site as I was trying to find out more of the nuances of FFT as I wanted to run through the game in a completely different way than the norm.  I found out a lot of stuff just by lurking around, and I'm probably gonna play through 1.3 right after I'm done with vanilla FFT.  One question that I could never find the answer for was how the game handled Axes, flails, and bags.  The damage seems to wildly vary, to the point that it's completely unreliable, but I'm hoping there is more to it.  Is there a way to get semi-reliable good damage from these weapons?

As per the BMG:

http://www.m-l.org/~greerga/fftnet/fftm ... mech65.txt

"WP * F | F = (1..PA)"

(1..PA) is notation for a random number between 1 and your current PA.  The displayed damage is the average of the bunch.  For example, with an 8 WP axe and a 10 PA character, you can swing for anywhere from 8 to 80 damage.  So... yeah; pretty unreliable.

Only way to get reliable damage out of them is Jump, or use their typically high WP for usage for battle skill (netting you a couple more %'s) or Throw (<3 throw Slasher).

On the plus side 1.3 gave an augment to flails and axes, but bags are still around as stat modifiers instead of pure melee weapons.

Ah, ok.  I saw the equation for it before but I didn't know that the (1..PA) meant that it could be any number from 1 to your character's PA value.  As far as using the axe for jump or battle skill, I'm rolling with a Lancer/Knight, so that kinda works for that particular dude pretty well.

It seems like I'll get more out of axes in 1.3 though, so I'll be sure to run through with an axe user there too.  Gonna try other stuff too, cause I recently discovered that Geomancers and Samurai's abilities are based off of MA rather than PA, and now I'm really wanting to try them out and 1.3 gives me a very good excuse to do so.  I always liked both classes but thought that their skill were just too lil dps :-(.

Thanks for the quick response!
