How do you use FFTEVGRP

Title says all... I try opening it up, I start looking for BMP's cant find any.... any explanation?

Mari

If you're trying to add some in from custom sprites, take a visit here.
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5991
I may just have it all ready for you.

You'll need CD Mage and, of course, FFTEVGRP.

Using CD Mage, open your FFT. Select the bottom choice for the type of CD. Should say something about normal CD and raw image, if I remember right.
Continue on through that, accepting whatever it asks. Parsing and the like.

Open the Track 1 folder, open the event folder, and then you'll find the UNIT.bin for the formation sprites and WLDFACE.bin for formation portraits.
Right click on them both and extract them.

Alright, now let's head to EVGRP.
Open your EVGRP and you'll open those UNIT and WLDFACE bins you just extracted.
If the sprite you're wanting is already in my thread, you'll just download those images and just pop them right in with import bmp.
If not, you'll need to take a look here.

Quote from: "Jon"4) First open up the art program and open up your sprite sheet. Get the rectangular box (up on the top in the toolbar) and box in the second unit on the sheet, it should be the one that is looking down but at a diagonal. I would zoom in first because it is hard to do when the sprites are tiny. Make sure the box is 24 by 40 pixels. Now copy this image, make a brand new page and when it prompts you to set the size, make it 24x40. In this new tiny white box, paste your character. It is difficult, but try to center the character here so its in the middle. I would use a reference of any unit you can get from the FFTEVGRP. Save As [spritename] menu.bmp, close it and reopen it in GraphicsGale once again. Now go to the top choose All Frames and change the Color Depth from 256 colors to 16 colors by changing 8bpp to 4bpp and then okaying it. Save the palette under the down arrow in the Palette box. Finally, just save (because it already is a bmp). Now do this exact same procedure but with the portrait, so first rotate the canvas of your sprite sheet counter clockwise under Image>Rotate and make sure the size is 32x48, which should be really easy considering you are boxing in the entire portrait which is 32x48. Paste this image as a new file called [sprite name] portrait.bmp, also once again a BMP file with the colors set to 16!! Save the palette the same way under the Palette box. That is important! Close GG once you got all that done. These are important files if you want your new unit to show up properly in the Menu screens.

Once you've got them inserted, you'll save those file and then head back to CD Mage.
Open CD mage just like before, except open the .cue file you made instead of the img file this time.

Now go back to those UNIT and WLDFACE bins and right click them and import this time!

As the puppeteer pulls His strings,
The fragile doll spreads Her wings.
To dance a ballet as He directs
That is the Curse of the Marionette.

Controlled by a hand far, far above,
Forbidden to care, forbidden to love.
Forever shall She mime what She cannot know,
Until the day She loses her illusory glow.

Propped up on a stilt where wine once stood,
The Marionette is, once more, only wood.
Her glossy eyes have lost their shine,
Her silken hair, turned to twine.

What a fate awaits the poor little doll,
Who dances and runs but cannot stand at all.
And the puppeteer is applauded at the end of every show,
But the audience's joyous response the doll can never know.

I am but a doll on an endless stage,
Dancing for others whilst I slowly age.
My puppeteer sits far above,
Hiding His face behind a white glove.

And when I have aged to nothing but wood,
I will be tucked away in a closet where a doll once stood.
Then, as I gather dust and the world passes by,
I will be forgotten by the vast, blue sky.

Jon

This is probably the most annoying step of getting a custom to appear fully in game. Thankfully, Mari is actually making all of the FFTEVGRP's that exist (on the download Sprites page). I might have to rewrite step 4 to simply say: Go here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5991 lol.
There ain't no gettin' offa this train we on!

Croix

when I try to open CDmage I get an Error. and it says my ISO is an invalid format. Do I need the actual disc??? I DO own one.... it's just beyond scratched.

Mari

You're following my steps incorrectly, if you're getting that error.

For image type you must select the bottom one.
The bottom selection is called "RAW IMAGE"
And on the next screen, you'll select the default one, which is CD rom or something of the sort.

Thanks so much for your help AND patience. I assume this works for the Event Decompiler too?

Jon

Event decompiler? Huh? FFTEVGRP is for sprites, event decompiler is for text. What you need is the TEST.EVT and the program. CDMage can extract the TEST.EVT though, if thats what you mean.
There ain't no gettin' offa this train we on!

Croix

yeah, that is what I meant, I apologize for my lack of clarification.

Croix

I keep getting an error Saying Bitmap is Wrong resolution???? May I ask how I correct this?

Mari

Was this to one you made yourself, or one I made?
Portraits must be 32x48 pixels
Humans and small monsters must be 24x40 pixels
and big monsters must be 48x48 pixels

If it's one you made yourself, check the size and see if it's correct.
If it's one I made, let me know so I can fix it.
