Harmless invisible arrows

So I was toying around with some of the tools I found here such as FFTPatcher, FFTacText, Shishi's, etc. and made a hack where I added some new generic jobs, removed some old ones, and changed some of the existing ones.

Everything was going fine until I get to Barius Valley. The archers there would sometimes target someone with an attack, the preview would come up displaying the hit rate and expected damage, but then nothing would happen; no animation of them attacking, no damage actually dealt, nothing. Other times though, the preview would come up and the attack would happen.

I continued playing and found that in the Execution Site battle, it was the same way. The archers there would occasionally target someone with an attack but nothing would come out, though other times it would work normally.

The only thing I changed about archers was to remove their Charge techniques and give them breaks instead.

What jobs did you actually edit? Some of the jobs you can't edit due to hard coding are Chemist, Lancer, Mime and Geomancer (I think there is another, but I can't think of it). Anyways, what is happening is most likely something to do with what you edited. What changes did you make to the archer, if any?

EDIT:

Also, welcome to the forum.

Thanks!

I took out all their "Charge +__" abilities from the Charge skillset and replaced them with the "____ Break" abilities that the knight normally gets. The only other change I made was to set the "Charge" skillset to "<default>" under the Action Menus tab in FFTPatcher.

In the meantime I just tested an archer of my own. I got her to learn a break ability and then tried to use it on a unit in battle. What happened was that the preview came up with damage and percentage as if I was physically attacking but then when I told it to execute, instead she did nothing and her action was wasted.

I have a feeling there's some step I'm missing here...

Archer is hard coded as well. It would have helped you if I'd told you that earlier. I believe archer must have the charge as their skill-set. Although, you can edit other classes to be able to equip bows, give them the archer sprite, and make them have the break skill-set. Sounds like fun, renting items from long distance. XD

Well I figured out what happened and now it's working correctly.

It turns out that when I changed "Charge" to "<default>" it either just didn't take or I must have forgotten to save or something, becuase when I loaded up the patch again to double-check everything, Charge was back to being "Charge" instead of "<default>". Anyway I saved it now and patched it and it seems to be working perfectly.

I feel so dumb now. Sorry if I wasted your time...

Nope, I help because I want to help. That's what the forum is for. I'm glad you found out the problem. Have Fun!
