Those are all bitmaps?  How much space do those things take up?  How were they extracted?  What tools were used?

Xifanie

bitmaps are for editing. The ones displayed on the page are super compressed PNG.
BMP = 14.3mb
PNG = 2.5mb

I extracted them using excel + hex editor... it was pretty long & tedious.

This is awesome, excellent work! The perfect thing to compliment the news that Matsuno is back working on a remake of Tactics Ogre.

A happy day indeed.
Doing a lolhaxx playthrough of WotL 1.3

Matsuno is BACK?!?!?!?!?! YEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

This is the most fantastic news of the past four or five years for Square Enix! Thank you Square for showing some common sense for once! This tidbit of info. shouldn't be stashed away in spam. I'll put up a thread in General about it, thanks Zephyr!!!

How on earth do you extract images with excel + hex editor?  Did you extract the individual hexes and make some kind of cross-referencing scheme for what colors each trio of hexes represented, and then reproduce them pixel by pixel in paint?

This reminds me of two ideas I had.

1.  A generic rpg editor, where you input the addresses to be edited and the naming conventions and such.
2.  How much of a pain would it be to replace the images in this game with compressed images?  Does the knowledge exist for such a rewrite of the way FFT handles sprites?

Another thing: Why do you think FFHacktics is so quiet recently?  Do you think the board needs another reorganization?  A romhacker (who I personally loathe, but who has some good ideas) came up with this set-up.

(category) Investigation
(board) Investigation

(category) Implementation
(board) Hacks - non-specific.
(board) Hacking and Patching Tools - anything which makes it easier to hack or patch is a tool, even if it is just a spreadsheet.
(board) Spriting
(board) Personal Patches
(board) Help
(subboard)The Classroom - learn the methods, master the tools, teach your method, post your tool.

It's derivative of ffHacktics (obviously), but the division between investigation and implementation keeps new users from using every board for the help board, and keeps every board uncluttered by random crap, except Help, one assumes.

We need to keep digging if we want to keep this community alive.  We need to make it as easy as possible for people to do what we want.  The first rule of business, and a good rule for life in general, and to do that for ffhacktics, we need to create a positive feedback loop that rewards, encourages, and facilitates creative/productive interactions and allows everyone to contribute the best way they can.

"That's why we have a wiki," I hear you saying, but wikis are a pain and most people don't contribute to them anyways.

But whatever.  If anything I'm rambling about works, feel free to steal it.
