Excellent, hmm... how would a combination of the Thief and Oracle hat look? Would it look too strange?

This should be cool to see. I would recommend making the hat the same color as his cloths instead of his beard, better color balance, for the portrait that is.

Right on Mav. I think Seushiro's additions are the right idea but need a bit of work in execution. Eyebrows are too thick or need a bit more blinding. Mustach has a similar blinding/shading issue. Texture on the hair looks good but needs some shading underneath on his skin. Move the earring over to the left one pixel. I like that Seushiro made the shirt more tattered, it looks a bit flat but that might be the color limitations. The skull and crossbones is amazing, though the hat itself might need a bit of work. I still stand by my had and shirt be similar color to keep good about of shades.

hat and shirt similar colors? the shirt rips might not be seen. . . anyway i just thought a pirate would be hairy like in his little reference pic he had thick eyebrows and a full beard since he is stuck on shore. . . but yeah lots of blending needed i agree. . . if we make him "black beard like" his hair and hat will match and it will be less colors. . .then can he have a different shirt like red or purple to be unique?

Shit, that looks pretty good, but how many colors is that? At least 30, right? Reducing colors on this fella is tough, but I think Seu has put the portrait in the right direction. I'll see if I can adapt his version to adhere to the portrait limitations a bit better.

Yeah Kagebunji that guy looks more like he is into S&M more than a pirate. Though I suppose they do kind of go together.

Portrait update. This is basically the happy median between mine and Seu's (who picked a much better base than I did).

This is great Mav. Maybe thicker eyebrows and a bit of chest hair would be a great addition.

mustache looks like a fu-man-chu! have it connected to the beard rather than extending beyond it

Bwahaha, right you are, dwib. By the way, I'm looking into some different eyebrows, but I doubt I can find suitable ones that already exist. Hopefully I can find some thicker ones, otherwise we may lose out on that good suggestion (eyebrows are pretty tough to do from scratch, for me at least). I'll see what I can do about the chest hair too.

Oh, looking great! He doesn't look Too ragged, and he looks like he has a certain air of regalness about him, I really like it! But yes, if we can find bushier eyebrows that might be worth it.

I like the thick eyebrows but it needs a few tweaks. Put a few more lighter browns/skin tones underneath the arch of his right eyebrow, will make it a bit thinner with a better arch I think. Oh and maybe take a few pixels of the left edge of his beard, it seems to be ticking out too far.
