News:

Use of ePSXe before 2.0 is highly discouraged. Mednafen, RetroArch, and Duckstation are recommended for playing/testing, pSX is recommended for debugging.

Hi. I'm new, and not sure where to post this.

I stumbled upon this site a few days ago, and I've just got to say, I think the community here is amazing. Everyone seems really helpful and cool, and thats nice to see.

But thats not the reason I'm posting this thread.

The reason I'm posting this is because I have limited knowledge of modding(have done a bit of Diablo 2 weapon modding but people who've done it know it takes little to no skill), but would very much like to get involved in modding FFT. I've been looking for tutorials on how to use the different downloadable programs here, but can't really find anything to help me through the basics. I'm trying to learn how to do sprite editing right now, but can't really understand this program.

So, in essence, my question is would anyone be interested in taking on an apprentice? I'm a quick learner, and I'm a pretty creative person.  I know its alot to ask but unless I just skipped over tutorials somehow I have no other way to learn.

Thanks for taking the time to read  :o

What program do you use?

Shishi is used to import made, finished or edited sprites.

Which means, it doesn't really let you 'make your own' sprites.
One thing you can do, is to download a pixel art program (w/ palettes; GraphicsGale for example)
and read some basic spriting tutorials (pixel art tutorials). Also, you might want to read some spriting tutorials here
in the forum.

Well, if you want to add pre-made/finished/custom sprites in the game,
all you need is either a .SPR file or a .BMP file, then import it to an existing character.
You can't, however, import a sprite into a fully new character.

I was kinda just hoping for someone to show me the ropes to everything over the course of a few weeks...

While it's not as nice as a step by step video tutorial, I wrote some instructions on using Gimp for spriting some time back.  You can find it at http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=727.  If there was enough interest, (more than just a couple of people) I could expand it with pictures or something to better illustrate what I was talking about with layers.
