I think making her hair messy is quite good as her portrait hair is quite messy as well.
Kindly upload the images to other image hosting sites. I can't view imageshack. Thanks.

I think for the moogle portrait, you need to drop the peanut shape for the head and make it more spherical.  From the references, it seemed to be caused by puffy cheeks.  I think you should do the following: shorten the head, angle it more to the left so that it's easier to mimic the FFT summon reference (and fix the whiskers on the left while you're at it), and take out any odd curves in the head other than where the nose and cheeks would be.  Having it face almost straight forward really isn't a good idea at all, in my opinion.  That said, keep in mind that I've not done any portrait work... that I'm willing to let others see.  My intent is far from "I can do better" as that would be a horrible lie.  I just feel there is room for improvement in the areas I mentioned.

I also believe you can do without the nose, especially so the more you angle it to the left.  By angling it to the left, you can make the nose the same way the cutscenes show noses in WOTL and the way a nose is easily discernible in the FFT summon reference.  (Though unlike the other examples I just mentioned, it does look like the summon has a little bit of color there.  It should still turn out easier with more of an angle.)
