I'm trying to recolor Ramza's sprite to match the Official Artwork

This is what I did.

However when I upload it to the sprite program it changes its color to this.

I'm new to spriting and i'm not sure what the problem is.

Can anyone explain what the problem is?

Thanks

What program are you using? I would recommend using Graphics Gale and looking at the exported sprite in there and the format of the palettes will be very obvious. Make your palette swaps there and it should work. There could be a couple things you did incorrectly, but doing this should make it clear to you.

Hmm.. Do you have GIMP?

I could post up a pictured guide on how I make it.

I've downloaded Graphics gale, but i still dont know how to view the palettes with this program.

I do not have GIMP.  Is that easier to use then Graphics gale?

View\Palette
  • Modding version: PSX
Love what you're seeing? https://supportus.ffhacktics.com/ 💜 it's really appreciated

Anything is possible as long as it is within the hardware's limits. (ie. disc space, RAM, Video RAM, processor, etc.)
<R999> My target market is not FFT mod players
<Raijinili> remember that? it was awful

I get to that part, but i'm not sure what to do with the palette.

If you can take a look at it i'd appreciate it.

I'm really not sure what to do with the palette, i try playing around with it, but nothing changes.

Can't wait until I finish my tutorial, then hopefully we can avoid people asking the same questions over and over.
I refuse to play Final Fantasy Tactics again until I am able to do my FF6 patch! And, FFT 1.3 doesn't technically count as FFT: so there!

Thank, changing the color depth worked, however now the portrait is all blacked out.

I'm not sure what the problem is, any ideas?

You are having this problem because two of the colors you used on the armor were actually part of the portrait's palette. Therefore, when the game searched for those colors in the actual sprite's palette it couldn't find them and instead linked the colors used for the hair.

Don't worry though, I fixed it for you.

Well, if you get your hands on GIMP, you can try changing the palettes to the color you like.
Try playing around with it and slowly, you will get it ^^
Kindly upload the images to other image hosting sites. I can't view imageshack. Thanks.
