I'm trying to figure out how to work a buzz-cut hair style in just a 16 color palette. I'm already at 19 colors so I need to scale down on the colors I'm using. Tips would be much appreciated for the hair. x_x If you need to reference a buzz cut, use google. I used the Simon portrait as my starting point, so I'm happy with the shape of his cranium at least.





Because of the 16 color limit (I managed to stay at 16 on this one :p) I'm having a hard time making this look acceptable. :s


And well... this is the little I've done on my Soul Manipulator so far. The only "completed" sprite is the forward-facing one. Though, I'm not satisfied with the head. I haven't done much to this since I'm distracted with the patcher and text editor. ADD ftw!

Decent progress though to begin with, I'm pretty impressed. For portraits I would start out not worrying too much about colors and focus on just getting it looking right and just keeping the different hues of colors low.

The shapes are fine, unless you're able to give me exact suggestions of what needs fixing (like, shift so&so pixel here). The colors are where I'm at right now. The different shades are what bring about the shape within the outline anyway(in such small pixel work), that's why I'm saying I'm focused on the color.

Looks liek your using a unique shade for under the neck. i suggest you use teh same shade of skin or make it traditional FFT, Zozma's and Cheetah's nad Darth Paul's portraits dont have to much neck showing. great detail on it, but its kinda wasted if you cant shade it right D:

Hmm, I think I can make it work with the original FFT palette while still keeping the pale skin on the face. I didn't put too much effort into the neck yet,color-wise, so thanks for catching me on that early.

I try; thats actually my first actuall color/pallete critique/suggestion...ill take another look in the moring. midnight is not my time of night lately...getting less and less out of the habit of night owling, lol
