Quote from: "Vanya"Hell, Zidane was a deeper character than Cloud and Squall put together.

LOL. That's a good joke, tell another.

Seriously, Zidane is just about as developed a character as Fighter from FF1.  However, FFIX did have some great protagonists, especially Vivi and Garnet (Dagger).  However, Zidane makes almost no character progressions throughout the entire game.

For Squall, he wasn't a bad protagonist, but every other anime has an angsty, recluse hero who is reluctant to take a leadership role, but does it so well.  So while not inheritly being a bad character, he is over-used character.

Cloud, Terra, and Tidus were all strong character models.  For tl;dr sake, I will only expand on one for now.

Tidus had his paternal issues, along with adapting to another era, and falling in love with woman who was inevitably going to die.  The ideas dictated part of his character by permitting his opportunities to react to them.  His father issues motivated him to not like father or be like his father, but the more he learned of his father he came to respect him.  While adapting to another era, he questioned the norms of this era while his friends totally accepted them.  This leads to the third conflict point: Yuna.  Yuna was inevitable going to die to save the world.  Tidus did not accept this and decided to fight it.  His own selfishness led him to potentially doom the rest of mankind.  But in the end, Tidus would choose to make the sacrifice that he would not let Yuna make. He was not only choosing to leave Yuna for the sake of the world, he was choosing not to exist.

Tidus' crisis (read as: moments of decision) helped develop his character.  Zidane was the same throughout FFIX; he might as well have been a silent protagonist.  Which is not intrinsically bad, but when overshadowed the rest of the main cast, Zidane character is neglected and stale.

Well, if Sephiroth was a mommy's boy, then what makes him so?

Quote...all related ff7 discusion...
FF7 gets way too much attention.

Quote from: "dwib"I also think Terranigma had a really fascinating story, although I'm not entirely sure that can be classified as an RPG
Terranigma was indeed a great story.  I think it qualifies as an action RPG.

This was a "funny ha ha" joke right?  Zidane is pretty much the exact same character from start to finish.  All that changes is you have a better understanding of his past.  And even with his backstory, it hardly qualifies him as "deep".  He's Van with a tail.

Quote from: "Skip Sandwich"right up there with Earthbound
You have just won yourself some trout flavored yogurt.  Earhbound is awesomeness in a cartridge.

Earthbound, is so awesome, the cartridges used to explode upon entering the system.

Terranigma follows along the lines of early LoZ, but eith more RPG elements(alot more equipment options for one). it can easily be classified as an ARPG.

im seriously going to make that ff7 topic, i have about 5800 words saved to a text document now.
