You know I made a topic about this 3 times on GF, only to have it moderated 3 times because of "Spoilers"

It's so obvious mods don't know anything about the game they mod... how can DEB  be a spoiler, he doesn't even exist in FFT lore..

Anyway, I'm disputing the 3rd topic the guy modded, which was titled


**SPOILER** Defeat DEB **SPOILER**

Here is the exchange between mod and me. I argued with him to the point where he sent it to a Lead Admin and I'm awaiting the result to see if he will agree with me or with the mod.

The topic title is marked as SPOILER, and the title itself contains no spoilers, just an abbreviation of boss name.

New players have no idea what DEB (the abbreviation) is until they actually reach that boss.

Please restore this topic.

It is not a spoiler at all because it doesn't even contain the boss name.

Doesn't matter whether they have an idea of this or not. They already may know. The bottom line is if you put up a spoilers tag, don't put the spoiler along with it.

Why?

Because:

DEB stands for "Dycedarg's Elder Brother", a mis-translation in the original game, because Dycedarg doesn't HAVE an Elder Brother, he IS the Elder Brother.

The actual boss you fight in the battle is Dycedarg, however the objective of the battle is "Defeat Dycedarg's Elder Brother!". Which is an error in the game.

Because of this, the title of the battle (Defeat Dycedarg's Elder Brother) is not a spoiler.

If I had posted "Need help in battle vs Dycedarg" as a topic, then that would be a spoiler, because Dycedarg is the person revealed to be a villian later in the story.

Dycedarg's Elder Brother (DEB) is a joke title used to refer to that battle amongst players of this game.

I fail to see how a reference to a battle vs a character that does not even exist in the game lore is a spoiler.

You could have worded that topic title so much better, instead of more or less putting the spoiler itself in there, forcing the user to view the post to even get what you're saying, thus spoiling them in the process. Perhaps saying "help with quest # blah *SPOILERS*" would suffice?

I doubt it.

This game does not identify it's quests or missions with numbers.

DEB is the title of the topic.

This game identifies it's "missions" with titles or objectives.

The title of that battle, "Defeat Dycedarg's Elder Brother", says nothing about the plot, as I explained in my previous message.

If it doesn't say anything about the plot, it cannot possibly spoil anything for the user, whether he / she knew what DEB stands for or not.


I *could have* worder the topic in a better way, sure, DEB is not an amazing topic title.



DEB is actually an incredibly vague title (it's an abbreviation of a translation error, for chrissake).

I seriously, seriously doubt any new player would suddenly come to the conclusion that FFT's plot makes you fight Dycedarg because they saw the letters DEB.

If they open the topic, it's their problem, not mine. I correctly labeled the topic title with not one, but TWO **SPOILER** labels.

GameFAQ mods never seem to actually know anything about the game/console board they look after. And this is just more evidence for it.

is one of biggest bunches of BS I've ever seen.

By going into a thread that's marked with a spoiler warning, one is making a conscious decision to see any possible spoilers. Of course, that's on top of the fact that no one who's new to the game would understand the reference anyway.

Then again, I think the moderation in general is a joke over there. Trolls run rampant while posters who don't violate any rules get modded.
