In-engagement environment editing

Hey, new to hacking/editing, but I've been following these boards for a few years now, I'm a huge fan of the games and all of your work on them. I'm wondering: is there a way to edit the actual battle stages, or to make completely new custom stages to fight on? And/or a hack for the world map to add or edit locations? thank you!

Supposedly Darthatron's new version of his all-in-one editor will have some kind of map editor.
