If anyone has the same problem I had trying to apply the patch and getting bugs in the tutorial, you probably have the wrong version of the game. Can't be (E), has to be (USA).

Use of ePSXe before 2.0 is highly discouraged. Mednafen, RetroArch, and Duckstation are recommended for playing/testing, pSX is recommended for debugging.
