I'm so insanely excited I've been shaking lol! I can't wait! I wanted to get on here and ask if folks were going to update/create software to mod it, but I'm sure it's gonna happen. There are a couple things I'm worried about, like the roster size. If they don't have at least 30-40 slots, I'll be very, very disappointed. Ever since 1997 I've thought that there should be roster space for every special character, several generics, and at least 1 for each monster type. I hope it happens! What is everyone else thinking??

Because I didn't remember. After searching through this forum, I looked at my old posts and made the connections. Unfortunately my memory isn't as sharp as it once was!

Hello! I can't imagine I'm the first person to have this issue, but after combing through many posts here I couldn't find exactly the same problem. If you can, please let me know!

SOLVED: So, so sorry. I'm absentminded and mixed up the skill set names in FFTactext. Oof.

EDIT: I asked a question about blue mages last year, and someone responded stating that you can't switch generic job skill sets due to hardcoding...is that only for player characters? In game, with the edits I made below, enemy Wizards and Oracles are able to cast the spells assigned to them in FFTPatcher.

In FFTPatcher, I switched the Wizard's skill set (0B) with Yin Yang (10) and vice versa. For clarity, this means Wizards should cast Yin Yang magic, and Oracles should cast Black Magic. In game, the equipped skill "Black Magic" is grayed-out and replies "No abilities can be used" despite my character unlocking Black Magic spells with JP.

Additional information in case it means anything lol:
Job ID for Wizard is 50, Job ID for Oracle is 55.
I removed 3 abilities from skill set 0B and added them to skill set 10 (Frog, Poison, Death).
I changed skill set 0B to only have R/S/M: Counter Magic, Absorb MP, MA Up.
I changed skill set 10 to only have R/S/M: MA Save, Magic Defend Up, Move-MP Up, and Any Weather.
I removed all Element 4 spells from skill set 0B.
Both skill sets are set to "Default" in the Action Menus.
Enemy Oracle and Wizard Job IDs are swapped in ENTD.

I hope this all made sense! Please ask for clarification if you need it. I sincerely appreciate any help; I've been working over 50 hours on this one darn edit and I can't figure this issue out. Thank you!

That's what I thought, dangit. Thank you so much!

Hi again everyone! I spent some time looking through the site and couldn't find an answer or a post related to this problem - please let me know if there is one.
I'm working on a new project for FFT WOTL. I have worked on the PSX version many times, so I decided to play through WOTL with little tweaks here and there. Everything has been working wonderfully except for Rafa and Malak; their formulas in-game are ignoring my X-value changes done in FFTPatcher. For reference, I've made these exact changes for the PSX version and had no problems at all manipulating these abilities.
The damage formulas include #Hit(Rdm{1,X}) where X should equal the max amount of hits the ability could land. For Rafa and Malak, I changed the X value to 3. Sky mantra was changed so all spells values are X=3 and Y=10, whereas Nether mantra spells are all X=3 and Y=34. Unlike in my PSX edits, the X value seems to not change anything - all the mantra spells are still hitting between 2-8 times through my testing.
Below is an attached image of what I changed in the bottom section of the abilities tab. For the PSX version, I unchecked "Random Fire" and checked "Can Select Unit," so for this WOTL patch I unchecked "Random Fire" and checked "Targeting." I also have tested using the mantras with Random Fire on (default) and no changes occur, all of them still land between 2-8 times. Is this an issue with WOTL? Maybe the Effects (like 0B1 for Heaven Thunder) make it impossible to change the random hit chances? I feel like I'm missing something but can't figure it out - hopefully it's something simple and my pea soup brain missed it. Thank you!

Help! / Re: Blue Mage Cannot Cast Learned Skills
August 23, 2024, 05:41:45 pm
Thanks Retro! I changed their skillset into an empty one that I adjusted, but unfortunately it suffers from the same issue (I'll try replacing an existing one next). Oddly now, the job comes with Choco Cure and Esuna, Mutilate, and Spark already learned. The skills don't show up in the Formation menu, but they're selectable and usable in battle. But yeah, I tried learning other skills and the same problem occurs where it asks if I want to learn the skill, it show sup in the Formation menus, but can't be selected in battle. I've been working on it this whole time and won't quit yet!

Edit: I misunderstood what you meant at first, so I went in and changed the action menu for Blue Mage to "Default" then "Monster" with no luck. I also changed an existing skillset to my Blue setup, and that didn't work either. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I'll keep trying. Thanks again!

Thank you again for your response!

Help! / Blue Mage Cannot Cast Learned Skills
August 19, 2024, 11:13:33 pm
Hi everyone! I spent a long time in the search results to see if there was another post with this issue, but I couldn't find the exact problem I'm having. I apologize if this has been solved before.

To get the question asked first - What am I missing in setting up a Blue Mage in FFTPatcher? A couple years ago, I changed Calculator to a Blue Mage with no issues at all; the mage got hit, learned, and could use a monster skill. I'm returning to modding FFT (PSX) now and the same steps I did in the past no longer work, but everything else I have changed in the patcher works great in-game. I'm including pictures in an effort to provide as much info as possible!

The issue I'm facing is that when my mage is hit, it asks "Do You Want To Learn x?" and I click "Yes." The skill shows up in the Formation menu, but I can't select it in battle. When "Blue Magic" is selected in battle (which I changed from Math Skill in the text editor), it states that they have not learned any abilities. I'm hoping this is a simple missed step on my part, so any help in discovering that will be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if there's anything else I can answer for more info.

Edit: I noticed that the last picture says "combo abilities;" could this be because of how the Calculator's skills require known spells from other classes? Is that right?

Hi everyone! This is my first post, so I hope I'm placing it in the right place!

I just got started modding FFT:WOTL (although I'd love to do the original too, but baby steps  ) and it's seriously the most fun I've had during this pandemic. I'm looking to make many changes to the jobs/characters, and have made a lot of progress. What I'm looking for are some ideas to change Reis while maintaining her uniqueness. I always related to Rafa and loved Reis' design, but found that playing them didn't feel as rewarding as others.

I searched through the forums and found some ideas, so I just want to get some opinions and brainstorm on changes or tweaks!

- Dome made a post suggesting having her abilities hit all monsters, which I think is cool, or making her a blue mage. I replaced Arithmetician with a Blue Mage build (and the sprite works fabulously imo!) but realized it takes a LOT of time and dedication to have multiple people master it. I also saw people using Luso as a blue mage, but ultimately I'll be replacing him at some point. What skills and equipment do you think would make Reis a viable and fun blue mage?

- Raijinili suggested Reis could learn hydra attacks as well, which I would love if I could change them to not hit randomly (which I fixed with Malak and changed to PA formula, single hit...but not Rafa [I'm still too new to figure her out and keep her animations/MA with what I want]). I'm going to keep searching the forums to solve my troubles!

- I want to take serious consideration of Shrikesnest's newbie tips of difficulty, stat multipliers, and behavior. For my personal game, I'm not looking into higher difficulty, more so uniqueness and changing Reis  ;) I definitely want to change her growth and multipliers, so has someone else liked what they changed in the past? Either in her current class or a custom one? All of these questions wrap up into what kind of behavior the player will assume when playing her with changes.

I'm taking her background into consideration, so please correct me if I'm wrong. She has no special connections to dragons other than her curse, right? Aside from in-game days passing plus a few, I can't imagine she's been a dragon for too long, right? So I don't necessarily see why she becomes a master of dragons, or dragonkin, so quickly, which is why I feel that she could use a change. I'd rather create a story for her from her beginnings kind of and use them moving forward, so I'm definitely excited to see if anyone has done this or has ideas. I'm thinking she's a Templar's lover, and knows the Celebrant from church, is a noble/of middle rank, so maybe she knows magick? I was thinking of a Disney Princess/Cinderella-like theme (I know...I know. Bear with me) in which she's close to animals, can speak to them, or something else to maintain her uniqueness of monster-related skills whether it be blue magic, more dragon abilities, or skills affecting all monsters.

Thank you for reading ha ha! Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions!  :D
