Help! / portrait color mumble jumble.
November 06, 2012, 04:21:32 pm
Hi Guys,

I have learned a lot in the last few days about this.... but I have one problem that is plagueing me.

When I save the initial custom sprite spreadsheet .bmp file to open in graphicgale... the portrait itself has messed up colors... the colors stay that way in the game's formation screens when added (in battle the portrait has the correct colors).

I am wondering what I am missing that made the colors stay mixed up in the formation/char selection screens?

Ok!

So I have met with pretty good success! My character showed up the military academy opening, as well as battle and Battle sprite.

But... for some reason my guys portrait is really mixed up (color-wise) in the unit selection screen for battle... but in battle the portrait is perfect.

So only 1 problem this time! YAY!

Any suggestions on how to fix this one final issue?

Also I used 35 teta's magic to make my guys class... and 13 simon for my guys sprite. (I moved simon to 3A the unused Celia, so he still shows up normally). I am wondering now are there any other character numbers/jobs (maybe balma's arc witch if that is in there I remember years ago when I tried the gameshark it could be used) that I can use that are unused in the list (ie: 3B lede) that I could alter to add more characters?

EDIT!

Ok... so after doing some searching on the site... I have found out that there are some issues with the Job/Sprite editing process in the tutorial from what I'm understanding that I am using. That the custom class will not "stick" and will reset if switched away. So I have decided not to use that tut any longer, although it was beneficial in teaching me some basics.

So i've decided to use the easier process of the FFTASTIC for replacing my generics... now in terms of my custom sprite portrait... in battle the colors and all look correct, but on formation screens the colors are all mixed up.

I'm thinking this is from Graphic Gale and the .bmp file I use to make the portrait. When I open the .bmp file from this site... the portraits always have mixed up colors. Any way to fix this so that the colors show up properly in the formation screens?

Yeah I am doing a fresh file.... I understand what went wrong the first time (I saved/opened an iso in a different folder by accident near the end)

I haven't done a whole lot in the programs... so starting fresh might fix the problem.

In terms of OPEN though in my second attempt... it really through me for a loop.... in this process I am replacing the name Simon with Jeres.... so no big change, and same number of letters. So I would say its an unknown error, that hopefully wont happen this time.

Thanks for the replies...

I am gonna try again with a fresh iso... I guessing the issue is with the fftacttext that I am using and/or the instructions are flwed.

So I will try again and see what happens :)

Also, I am using the original psx version.

Hello everyone,

As I continue my adventure into learning how to mod fft... I have learned a lot so far.

I used the "Character Creation Tutorial by Jon" in order to add a new character into my game. I was trying to add the Fayt sprite... so I followed the tutorials instructions and everything appeared to go perfect, no unusual errors and all programs seemed to do as they were suppose to.

Everything in GraphicGale, PalSuite3, fftpatcher, cdmage, fftacttext, and shishi, all worked fine.

Yet I start a new game with my iso and boom, nothing. Game runs fine but nothing I modded has shown up.

EDIT

Ok I am retracing the steps... now for some reason in the FFTACTEXT editor... now I am getting an error saying "DTE FOR open.lzw failed, the iso has not been modified" This happens when I try to patch my iso. The problem seems to be in changing the name "dish" to what I want to name the character.

ANy suggestions?

Help! / Re: custom sprites added to fft?
November 04, 2012, 11:06:49 am
Thank you for the reply.

Is it possible to add sprites to the sprite list in the game... without replacing one. For example each in-game sprite has its own code... is it possible to add to the list of sprites/codes, so that when I go to change the portrait/sprite of one of my generic soldiers, I don't have to over-write a current in-game sprite in order to add in the custom one?

Not sure if that makes sense for what im trying to say.

EDIT

I should add, if I can't do what the mumble-jumbel above is asking, lol, are there certain sprites in the game that aren't really used? I noticed a celia and lede sprite listed as "never used" so I replaced them with customs... I noticed there are multiple spots for some generics. It appears to me that 60-85 are the main job sprites, but there are other job sprites listed elsewhere on the sprite list.... can I replace those with customs without changing much in the game?

Also there are a few "10-year old girl" type sprites in the game... can I replace those with customs in order to mod my save game party generics? If so, will it affect many scenes throughout the game?

Help! / custom sprites added to fft?
November 04, 2012, 01:52:31 am
Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and modding psx fft.

The list of sprites on the main page all look great. I am wondering if those can be added to the game... if so is there a tutorial I can follow in adding those sprites like Yuffie, Vincent, etc to the fft game?

Nope can't find a folder for those file types.

I'm thinking the vita only allows backups to be transferred which im assuming is the files that actually transferred over.

Yep i got that... the vita comes with it... I have used and setup the content assistant for transferring... I can transfer several files .sys, .sfo

But neither open in the patcher...

as well as game.psvimg, and game.psvmd

Im beginning to think the vita cant do it.

Hi there,

I am very interested in modding my fft game on my vita.

I was following the tutorial instructions with the psp and lioneditor... but the instructions do not work.

At step 8... it asks "Check the different removable disk drives until you find your psp. "

When i locate the psp drive... and highlight it i am unable to hit ok... so I get stuck in what to do next.

I have tried copying over the save file, in order to edit it on the pc... then send it back... but the lion editor wont open it.

Any suggestions on an alternate modding editor or process?
