our usual form of immediate conversation takes place on IRC. On the tabs at the top of the forums (home, help, search, wiki, etc.) there's a PJIRC button. Click that and it'll take you to our chat browser. Or, you could download MIRC and connect that way.. so that you don't get disconnected every 10 minutes. We can answer most of your questions on there. Seems like you've found alot of the information you need. The message I originally linked you (and Raven linked you as well i think) contained the "important links" page. At the top of that page there's a link to the Tutorial Index, where you'll find most of the relevant tutorials. I don't think there's an FFTPatcher tutorial, which is why i'm pointing you towards IRC. ASM/hex editing will be much easier to explain on IRC as well as the misnomer-type material like the animations tab of the Patcher.

Thanks alot, I will look into the IRC chats.

I would prefer some-sort of microphone conversation ... but for now IRC will do. Maybe someone there will join me in a convo since skype is free .. or I can just ask away..

Thanks again

I will currently be busy today with a birthday party and work soon after till around 9:30. I was wondering if anyone here wanted to help me tinker around or teach me the tabs I don't yet fully grasp. To me this wouldn't take too much time at all once explained correctly since this program seems so straight forward and easy to use.

Who knows maybe I could meet some of you and make some friends. Also I won't trouble anyone with real hacking such as Hex editing and things .. I can learn this real quick from a tut or book imho. I am really interested in this so if someone has any free time late tonight or preferably tomorrow, please let me know.

Thanks everyone! Been much help already I can see that the editor program can make a ppf file to patch alot in the game. After I learn this enough I will moved onto tactext which will also require tuts before I dabble with that.

FTTPatcher doesn't require you to open files to edit, it already has the default data programmed inside it, so you can use "Generate New .FFTPATCH" and begin making changes immediately.  Then you merely use Save to obviously save your changes as a .FFTPatch file, then when you're ready to actually see your changes in action you Apply them to the ISO.

FFTacText works by merely opening the ISO itself (or a .ffttext file) then editing / saving / writing the text data directly to the relevant files on the disk.

That's why both these tools are considered to be "easy modding".  You don't have to actually remove any files on the disk to use them.  Merely open the entire ISO, make changes, save a file so you can have a backup of your changes, apply.  It's a simple job, really.

Alrighty, I actually figured this out late last night. Am still confused about tactext atm because I've read there are issues with .487 or w/e the recent one is .. so i should downgrade to .478? i think and re-apply somehow?

I will currently be busy today but tomorrow I am off all day long. I will pm ... on second thought I will post asking someone for some hands on help using Vent or maybe Skype on this day.. that way maybe I could catch someone who has some free time instead of cornering and bugging someone who has no time that day.

Hands on to me is the quickest way of learning and most fun.. I am still having trouble understanding animations tabs in the suite and some other areas ... my mind cant grasp what they change / or do exactly .. also alot of unknown tabs.. do these do something but are just unknown atm as to what they do?

Just need a link .. I searched the hacking area/main front page tuts/and help forums.

If you could link me to a great tut on this I would thank you.

Until then I will keep searching-reading.

Edit to explain more in detail..   how to open files / edit them... text .. events .. characters .. etc.. just need some basics atm never used this.

Start by learning FFTPatcher and FFTacText.  They're the basic programs for "easy modding" FFT and making a rebalance patch like FFT: Kind Of.  Forget the rest until you understand how to use that much.  They're fairly simple and self-explanatory programs once you poke around in them for a bit, so you shouldn't have much trouble.

For most other things, visit the Tutorial Index and Important Links threads.  But until you've got a decent grasp of how to use FFTPatcher and FFTacText though, you really shouldn't be trying to learn the other things, as those two programs form the core of most FFT mods no matter how elaborate you want to be.

I will take this to heart and first focus on these two progs. Thank you sir.

Here is a description of most of the programs we use. There a couple others and some utilities that make life easier.

http://ffhacktics.com/wiki/Main_Page

Here is where most of the programs and all of the tutorials can be found:

http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=9210.0

There is alot to learn.. and it takes time to get good at things, but with decent time and effort you'll get good at editing things. Patience is where it's at.

With ASM, there are a couple of tutorials... all of which are helpful as they cover different things. It's also nice to have them accessible while you're messing around so you can reference things.

When in doubt, hop on IRC chat and hopefully somebody will be on that can help you.

Also thank you for the links. very helpful. Can you/someone link me to some ASM tuts/help topics maybe. That way I could use this post as a sort of index on where to start and when to advance once I learn a certain program.the

Also once I get an ASM topic/tut link I will post later and bump this when I learn enough of these links and programs.
I will also make seperate topics for each programs as I learn as not to clutter this one with a boggled img of my ADD brain. :)

Recap: After someone links to ASM help I will bump when needed for more help. TYTYTY

EDIT:

Found everything I need, until I post plz don't reply/bump. I will read now and learn when I get free time.

Help! / Hello, need directions and much much help.
October 26, 2012, 10:17:17 pm
Hello,

I am wanting to make a game based on a new storyline, characters and will need much help. Such as links to tuts or helpful info on where to start and what progs to use for each phase. I realize I am just another member dropping by to say what thousands already have asked in this forum and am patient and willing to help on other mods after I learn enough. I will prolly be learning some hex editing, ASM, and more. I would also like to learn how to edit script/text/gfx for the game... and to sum up these next few paragraphs ... I pretty much want to learn it all .. how to fully be able to edit FFT anyway I wish.. text/sprite/scripts/maps/move sets and gfx animations ... you get the idea (music, everything)

I am currently teaching myself C++ courses and reading books in my free time that are highly recommended and I know that this stuff takes years to learn, In my free time I wish to tamper in the dark arts of FFT and maybe later (much later) help on projects in the future.

I was wondering where to start and what programs to use basically I need details a monkey could understand until I get the hang of this, and can start off slow if need be. I assume I would use a program here to open the iso, or extract the iso files from the img and work from the folder?

Let me know guys and thanks alot in (FFT) Advanced  :)

P.S.
If someone would like to send me a huge email explaining each program here that would be awesome.. I can learn hex editing easy enough so dont worry about that topic in time I will search what I need for that area. I am asking alot but trust me and in the end you'll see I will be a great help once I start memorizing the ISO img by heart.

Until someone posts saying TLDR or helping ... I will wait and again .. thanks to all who show some love!
